“I’m in,” I say immediately, because I’ve never been one to shy away from some drunken shenanigans.
Will grins. “You might regret saying that, man.”
“You’re our friend, Bodhi,” Fox continues, leaning toward me. I get a strong whiff of tequila on his breath. Maybe he’s already had more than I thought tonight. “And we’re going to help you.”
“Uh, not sure I need help with any—”
“You do though,” River insists.
Fox slams a fist down on the table. “This has gone on long enough!”
“Okay, chill out there a little bit, Braveheart,” Will says, passing shot glasses around to me and his cousins.
“Maybe Fox doesn’t need one of those,” I mutter.
“I’m fine,” he says, waving his hands broadly—and nearly smacking his brother in the face. “This is important.”
“What’s important?” Rose asks, sliding into one of the empty seats, her face flushed from all the dancing, long blonde hair slightly disheveled.
“We’re going to help Bodhi get Everly.”
“Oh Jesus,” I mutter, moving to stand up. Will and River’s big hands come down on my shoulders, pushing me back into my seat. “You’re all insane, you know that?”
But Rose claps in excitement. “I love this idea!”
I gape at her. The guys have been giving me shit about my crush on their cousin for years, but it’s not something I’ve ever talked to Rose about.
“Oh, come on, Bodhi,” she says, rolling her eyes. “I see the way you look at her.”
“Everyone sees the way you look at her,” Will cuts in. “I bet even Grandma and Grandpa are waiting for you to get the balls to make a move.”
“Okay, I think that’s about enough of this conversation,” I say with as much dignity as I can muster. I smooth my tie down and move to stand again. This time it’s Leo who pushes me down into my seat as he joins the table.
“You guys said you were going to wait for me,” he complains, sliding into the seat beside Rose before grabbing her and pulling her into his lap. She leans back into him, their movements together so easy and loving it kind of hurts my stomach.
“You’re in on this too?” I ask my supposed best friend.
He shrugs. “We just want you to be happy, man.”
“And you and Everly would be so good together,” Rose adds.
“So you figured ambushing me at your own wedding was a good way of making that happen?”
“It’s not an ambush.” River holds up the bottle of tequila. “We brought drinks.”
“People don’t bring drinks to an ambush,” Fox adds, swaying slightly in his chair.
I point at him and scowl around at the others. “This is who I’m supposed to be taking relationship advice from? He’s about three seconds from blacking out.”
“I’m almost entirely sober,” Fox says, then hiccups loudly. “I wanna help you man.”
“I really don’t need your help.”
Will points to the dance floor, where Everly is currently wrapped around freaking Trey. “You sure about that, man?”
I try to avoid looking at her. I really do. But that girl has a hold on me and my eyes can’t seem to help sliding in her direction. It hits me like a punch to the gut, watching her with him.
“Christ, it’s like looking at a kicked puppy,” River says, and I turn to glare at him. He holds up his hands. “I’m just saying, Bodhi. You’re clearly into her. It’s killing you watching her with that asshole.”
