Bodhi
Iwake up to the smell of flowers all around me. Something is tickling my nose and I bat at it, then freeze when I realize it’s hair. It’sEverly’shair.
In an instant, I’m completely awake, Because holy shit. I’m in a hotel room at the beach and Everly Ransome’s body is draped over mine.
I bring my hand up to her back, needing to touch her, to convince myself that this is real. My fingers meet silky skin. Definitely real.
Which means all the flashes of memory running through my mind are real, too. All of that really did happen. We really did have the most perfect date imaginable. We really did make out in a swan boat. She really did come right out and ask if we could book a room in this hotel.
The most surprising thing of all might just be how not surprising it all feels. You’d think that with all the months and years I spent waiting for this exact moment, it might feel surreal. But it doesn’t. Waking up with Everly’s mess of curls in my face feels completely and totally right. And everything that happened in this bed last night? That felt completely right, too.
“Shut up,” she mumbles into my chest and I chuckle.
“I didn’t say anything.”
She shoots up in bed with a gasp. “Bodhi!”
“Everly.”
She pushes her hair out of her face—God, I love how messy it is in the morning—eyes wide as she stares at me. Then she realizes that she’s naked and she gasps again, yanking the sheet up to her chest.
“I was enjoying that view,” I pout and she gapes at me.
“Are you teasing me right now?”
“Um, yes?” I slip my hands behind my head on the pillow, trying to look as casual as possible. I know this girl. She’s going to be losing her mind right now. The best thing for me to do is to show her how completely normal this all should feel between us.
“Bodhi, weslept together.”
I grin. “We did.”
“How are you not freaking out?”
“I’ve been awake longer than you. I finished my freaking out before you woke up.”
“How did you manage to stop?” she asks, eyes huge in her face. “Because I’d really like some pointers.”
I laugh and tug on her arm, pulling her back against my chest. She’s tense for just a second before she relaxes against me. I bring my hand to her back and rub soothing circles across her spine.
“I just remembered how amazing last night was and I calmed right down.”
She sighs against me, the contentment I hear in the noise making my chest tighten. “It was pretty amazing, wasn’t it?”
“We could re-enact that amazingness right now,” I suggest. “Maybe that would help?”
She laughs. “I think I need to wrap my mind around the first time before any re-enacting.”
I tighten my arms around her and bring my face down to murmur into her ear. “What about the second time? Need any help remembering that?”
She gasps. “Oh my god, we totally had sex twice!”
I burst out laughing, happier than I can remember being. “We did. And it was perfect.”
“You’re perfect,” she murmurs, pressing a kiss right over my heart. We lay there for a long moment, just holding each other. I can feel her relaxing more and more, her breathing evening out.
“Feel better?”
“Yes.” She lifts her head, those crazy black curls covering half her face. “Sorry I freaked out.”
