He looked down at me, studying my face. “You were really worried about this, weren’tyou?”

“Well, yeah. They can be pretty…intensesometimes.”

“You didn’t think I could handleit?”

I shook my head quickly. “No, it wasn’t that. Just…” I didn’t know how to describe it to him. The wave of fear I’d felt rising up when we set foot in that lobby. That certainty that it was going to go wrong, that Grant was somehow going to end up hurt or disappointed. That they wouldn’t likehim.

I couldn’t describe it, because I couldn’t really understand it. My grandparents had never shown any interest in any of the guys I had ever dated. Why did it feel so different withGrant?

Becauseyoufeel different with Grant,a little voice in my head whispered. You feel more withhim.

It made my breath catch, that realization. Ididfeel more for him. In fact, I was pretty sure I was falling head over heels for him. Hell, I probably alreadyhad.

“You okay?” heasked.

I shook my head, trying to clear it of the sudden rush of awareness. “I’m fine,” I told him, tightening my hand. “So what do you have planned for theday?”

“I need to get my aster trimmed back,” he said, looking at me out of the corner of his eye. “But I suppose I could put that off until tomorrow if you wanted to hang out. Maybe we could head to the mainland? See amovie?”

I knew I should tell him no, that he should work and not waste the day with me. But it was just too tempting, the thought of a few more hours at his side. So instead I nodded and told him a movie would begreat.

And tried very hard not to freak out over the fact that I was falling completely in love withhim.
