“What’s with the sigh?” Will asks. “This is a good thing, right? Don’t tell me you’re mourning your hookup days.”

I scoff. “It’s not about that.”

“Then what?” he asks, sounding genuinely confused. And he would be—the entire reason we’re here this weekend is to celebrate the amazing love in Will’s life. He’s found the perfect person for him, the person who’s going to let him stand at her side through all the shit life might throw at them. He loves Eva with the same kind of intensity I see in our parents and there’s no doubt in my mind that she’s it for him, and that she feels the same way about him.

Asshole has no idea how lucky he is.

“Seriously, Riv,” he presses. “Why do you look like you’re going to puke all of a sudden? You found a girl who you like enough to bring here, which is huge. She’s pretty and smart and good with your siblings.” He laughs. “And she can skate, which makes her like, your every fantasy come to life, right?”

“I don’t need you to sell me on Jas,” I mutter. “There’s no confusion here, Will. I get it.”

“What do you get, exactly?”

I watch as she stands with my mom, cheering for Ash’s latest attempt. A weight settles on my chest and I have to swallow hard to before I can answer. “I get that Jasmine is everything I ever wanted.”

I can feel his gaze on the side of my face, studying me. “Then why the hell do you look so sad?”

I don’t answer him, because the words would hurt too much. The truth is, I’m pretty damn sure Jas wouldn’t say the same thing about me. And I have no idea if that’s ever going to change.
