“I could get used to this,” she murmurs into my ear. “You carrying me around all day.”
“It can definitely be arranged.” I reach back and grab her thighs. “Slight adjustment, though.” I pull her around my body until she’s facing me, readjusting her legs around my waist. Face-to-face now, I grin at her. “Much better.”
“Thank you for bringing me here,” she says, expression suddenly serious. “I didn’t know how much I needed this until we got here.”
“Didn’t know how much I needed you until I found you,” I say, not caring that it’s cheesy. It’s the truth and I’m done with trying to minimize the way I feel about her.
For a second, I think I went too far, that she’s going to pull away. But then her expression gentles and she leans in to kiss me.
And right then, with Jasmine’s lips pressed against mine and the ocean I love so much lapping around us, I feel it for the first time. I pull back, eyes wide, and she’s grinning. “You felt that one.”
“Fuck yes I did,” I breathe, and she laughs, taking my hand and pressing it into the same spot. He does it again. It’s not super strong—it feels more like a flutter, the way Jas described, but it’s definitely there. “Oh my God.”
“Figures he would start kicking in the ocean,” she says, a softness on her face I’ve never seen before. “Takes after his daddy.”
I have to kiss her again—I might just cry if I don’t.
“You can’t tell me that’s not fate,” I say against her mouth. She only laughs before kissing me back.
I don’t give a shit if she believes in fate or not. I know in my soul I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.
