Heclimbed into the truck, then we were off again.

Ineeded to plan better ifIwas going to do this again.Drinkinghot coffee while unable to sit up and being jostled around at the same time was awkward as hell.Ishould have picked up something with a straw.

Andthe dust.Ugh.Nope.Icouldn’t eat my cinnamon bun with all the dirt flying around.Whenwas the last timeHaydenwashed this thing?

Ifrowned.Hewas such an ass, making me do this.Iknew he hadn’t told me to, andIknew he didn’t knowIwas doing it, but this was all his fault.

I’djust finished the last of my coffee when he guided the truck to the side of the road.Isat up and pulled back the lid on my cinnamon bun.Itwould have been better if it was warmer, or ifIcould have taken my time, but it still tasted pretty good asIstuffed it in my face.

“Noway.Seriously?”Hayden’swindow must have been open becauseIcould hear him.

Iturned around and, sure enough, there he was, twisted in his seat and staring at me.Igrinned around a big bite and wiggled my fingers at him.

“Whatare you doing here?”Agolden color flashed through his pale blue irises.Thathad to be his wolf pushing forward.

Iheld up my forefinger, in the universal sign of “give me a minute.”Ilicked the last of the cream cheese icing from my fingers.Eatingcinnamon buns was a messy business, butIrefused to waste any of the yummy goodness.Hewatched me for a moment, before he cleared his throat and faced forward again, like he couldn’t stand watching my tongue lap at my fingers.

“Parkerput napkins in the bag,”Haydenmuttered.

“Sure, sure,”Isaid.Iturned my hand this way and that to make sureIgot everything beforeIdug in the bag and pulled out a crumpled paper napkin.Iwiped my hands and mouth quickly. “Alldone.”

Haydengrunted, then he climbed out of the truck and slammed the door.Washe always this grumpy?Orwas it something he saved for me?

Chapter Ten

HAYDEN

Theimage ofRyleysucking and licking his fingers was burned into my brain.Itshould have been disgusting, watching him take his tongue to his dirty hands.Ishould have told him to clean them on a napkin like an adult before his tongue had even touched his skin.

ButIdidn’t, because…

Iwiped my hands down my face.

Hewasn’t trying to be sexy.Iknew that.

But, fuck.

Ihad to get control.

He’dpissed me off by tagging along, but then he’d gone and distracted me with all thatlicking.AndnowIcouldn’t think straight.

Ineeded to think about something else, like walking through the steps of rebuilding aV8.Instead,Igave my hard dick a squeeze through my jeans to get it undercontrol.Ijerked my hand away whenIheardRyleyclimb over the tailgate and jump down.

Assoon asIsaw him pop up in the back of my truck,Ishould have done a one-eighty and driven right back toWillowLake, butIwas so damn close to findingRobbie.I’dalready put off coming out here for hours.Icouldn’t squander any more time.

Ipinched my dick one last time and walked to the back of the truck whereRyleywas standing.Hesmelled like sugar, cinnamon, and cream cheese.Hislips looked sticky and wet, and he kept licking his tongue over them like he was determined to collect every insignificant speck of sugar.

Nowmy tongue wanted to slip out and see if he’d missed any.

Ibit down on it instead.

Ryleypulled off his glasses and hung them from the collar of his shirt.Iwas about to ask what he was doing, but then his pupils changed into that weird square shape of his faun form.Hedidn’t shift the rest of his body, just his eyes, and it was strange to see those eyes on a human face.ButI’ddone a little research last night whenRyleyhad been in withDoc, soIunderstood why he’d done it.Faunswere supposed to have excellent sight in their shifted form.

“Thetrail your friends followed is there.”Ryleypointed at a patch of bent grass in the ditch.

Iinhaled to confirm. “Yes.”

“So, we’re following it too? We’llgo in there and see if we can pick up where they lost the scent.”
