Itwas the same one he’d sat in when he first met my team.Ashdidn’t takeIsaacup on his offer of a seat at the table.Insteadhe dragged his mate away fromGageand pushed him into the small kitchen area.HepushedDillonagainst the counter and stepped in front of him, so his back was toDillon’schest.Thehellhound automatically wrapped his arms around the smaller man.

Iexhaled slowly.Ishould have expected them to freak out when meetingGage.I’dgotten so used to his intense energy over the years thatItended to forget how disturbing it had been the first timeI’dmet him.

“Comehere, wolf boy.”Jeremywinked at me and patted his lap.

Istalked over and scooped him into my arms.ThenIdropped into the seat with him on my lap.Hepouted for half a second before settling against me.Ididn’t need the reminder that promises of more sex had been made this morning but feeling his ass against my crotch did just that.Anerection was the last thingIneeded right now.

“Statusupdate,”Gagesaid, looking straight at me.

Icleared my throat and tried to get my thoughts straight. “Wehave confirmed the goblin has been inJeremy’sapartment.Herscent was everywhere, as were the scents of two other beings.”

“Ayoung troll and a wolf,Ithink,”Dillonsaid.

“Yeah.Ithink so too.”Iagreed. “Thecat is missing.Therehave been no other messages fromBabettesince the one where she said she’d exchange the cat for the boxes we took from the market.Asfar as we know, she hasn’t gone after any ofJeremy’sfamily or friends.”

“Ican’t believe she catnappedClawie,”Jeremymurmured and snuggled closer to me.

“Dowe know if any of his family or friends are supes?”Teagueasked.

“Noneof his family are,”Ashsaid, “nor is our old high school teacher.Ihaven’t met his librarian.Shewasn’t at the library when we dropped off his books.”

“Arewe sure this isBabette’splace?”Nelsonasked.

Jeremynodded. “Wemet at a nearby coffee shop when she interviewed me.Afterthe interview,Ifollowed her.Iwanted to make sure she was legit.Sheparked at that building and went inside.”

Ashgasped. “Holyhellfire,Jeremy.Youfollowed a goblin to her lair?Doyou have any idea how dangerous that was?”

“Well,Ididn’t know she was a goblin, didI?”Jeremycrossed his arms over his chest. “Didn’tknow they existed outside of fairy tales, althoughIwould have known ifsomeonehad said something sooner.”

“Yousaid you forgave me,”Ashsaid.

“Forgivenbut not forgotten.Besides,I’mnot the one who brought it up again.”

Theyglared at one another for a moment beforeJeremysat up and clapped his hands.

“Okay, enough talk.Let’sgo get my cat,”Jeremysaid. “It’stime forOperation:RescueClawiefrom theEvilGreenMonkeyCreature.”

ChapterNineteen

JEREMY

Theonly thing stopping me from getting this cat rescue mission going wasAdrian’stight grip around my waist.Iwiggled to get free, but he was, unsurprisingly, stronger than me.

“Wouldyou sit tight for a sec?” he muttered.

Ididn’t have a thorough plan, butIwasn’t going to let that stop me.Wedidn’t have enough answers to come up with a solution to every possible problem, so we would be winging this anyway.

Whyeveryone else hadn’t figured this out already,Ididn’t know.

Apparently,Adrianand the others thought we’d need more than righteous indignation to see us through, butIfigured it was like whenIwrote.Aplan or a plot only carried me so far beforeIstarted making shit up asIpushed the story out into the world like a proud mama.

Okay.Iwas never going to say that simile aloud, ever.Itsounded so wrong.

Andnow thatIwas thinking about it,Iwondered if that’s whyIalways got stuck on my stories and couldn’t finish them.Butthat was something to think about later.Afterwe gotClawieback.

Andif we got inside andClawiewasn’t here…?

Itwas better not to think about that.Ididn’t want that idea out in the universe.
