“Yeah,”Adriansaid, stepping up beside me to peer out over the water. “Theyexist and can live in any kind of water.Whetherwe’ve seen one of the merfolk or not,Icouldn’t say for sure.Itmight have just been a sturgeon or some other big fish.”

Westared at the water for several long minutes, but when nothing happened except my stomach protesting again,Ireluctantly turned away to continue down the path.

Afterthe hectic day,Iwas digging the peace and quiet, which was an unusual thing for me to like.I’dalready had a lot of firsts today;IsupposedIdidn’t need to add meeting a mermaid to my list.Besides, hanging out with a werewolf was pretty damn awesome.Isuspected that even ifAdrianwasn’t a werewolf,I’dstill think hanging with him today was amazing.Therewas just something about the guy that called to me.

Ididn’t need more than that.Todaywas already perfect.

Idrew in the fresh air and exhaled slowly, savoring the beauty of the place.Sometimesnature could be just as breathtaking as finding out the supernatural world was real.Betweenthe rustling of the leaves in the breeze and the lapping of the water at the shoreline,Iwas happy and relaxed by the time we arrived at the signpost pointing toward the inn.

Thistruly was the best day ever.Tomake it even more amazingly phenomenal there was just one more thingI’dlike to happen sooner rather than later.ItuggedAdrianto a weathered wooden bench with a view of the water.Hefollowed without comment.Ipushed him to sit down.God, he was gorgeous.Andsupernatural.Andso freaking sexy.

Iswallowed down my momentary insecurities and crawled into his lap, straddling him.Ibounced on his firm thighs.Oh… those felt nice under my ass.Isquirmed against him, wanting more.

“Uh,Jeremy, what are you doing?”

“Ithink we should kiss.Iknow we made plans for later, butIcan’t wait that long.”

Hisgaze darted to my lips and back up to my eyes.Hismouth dropped open a little andIswore he sniffed the air.

“Unlessyou’ve changed your mind,”Iforced myself to say when he didn’t move or say anything.

Assoon as the words left my mouth, his hand came up in a blur of movement and cupped my nape.Thenhe pulled me close until our mouths met.Igripped his shoulders and moaned into his mouth asIrolled my hips.Hisother arm snaked around my waist and yanked me forward until his bulge met mine.

Alow growl, not a menacing one but a happy sounding one, rumbled through his chest and made his whole body vibrate against mine.Ismiled against his lips asIdeepened our kiss.Myhips jerked.Hisgrip on me tightened, holding my body firmly against his as our mouths explored and tasted and licked at one another.

Mysenses were overwhelmed by him.Thegolden light of his wolf sparking in his eyes thrilled me.Thescent of his skin made me wishIcould breathe nothing but him from now on.Butit was the other things that had me ready to explode.Thetaste of his tongue as it danced along mine had me writhing in his lap.Thesound of his grunts and moans of appreciation as he lost himself in our kisses had my cock aching for release.Thefeel of his hands slipping down my body to squeeze my ass had me ready to rip off my clothes.

Hewas everywhere.Everythingelse fell away until all that existed were the two of us.Ipushed at his shirt, needing to feel skin and heat and…

Anoise came from behind us.Itsounded like someone clearing their throat.

Adrianfroze.

“Excuseme,” a man said, “but before you go any further, you should know you have an audience.”

Adrian’sgrowl was full of menace and anger.Hemaneuvered me off his lap.HisAnubisform emerged with a ripple of magic.Iwhipped my head around to glare at the intruder.Likeseriously buddy, couldn’t you tellIfinally had the werewolf whereIwanted him?Excepthe wasn’t on the trail.Isearched around for the guy who’d spoken.ThenIsaw something in the water. No, not something,someone.Hewaved.Waterdanced against his torso where it rose out of the water.Hisbroad muscular shoulders were beautifully sculpted, like a swimmerIused to date who’d specialized in the butterfly stroke.Allthe university profs in the art department had approached him about modeling for their classes.Thethought of staring at his nude body every week almost had me signing up for a painting class as an elective, but my creativity didn’t extend to visual arts.Failinga class wouldn’t have impressed anyone.

“Noneed for all the dramatics,” the guy in the water said. “Iwas just coming over for a drink at the inn whenIsaw things were getting a bit heated. It’ssexy as fuck, butIthought you should know you’re being watched.”Hewaved his hand toward the trees.

Mygaze darted to where he gestured, butIcouldn’t see anyone.Allthat was there were aspens, willows, and the water.Adrian’sgrowl deepened, soIthought maybe he saw whatIcouldn’t.Ihadn’t expected supernatural creatures to come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, including trees and shrubs, butIsupposed it was possible.Givenhow angryAdriansounded, now probably wasn’t the best time to ask about that.

“CanIget out of the water now or do you need more time to calm down?”

Adriangrumbled as he clenched his teeth, but hisAnubisform fell away to reveal his sexy face again.Hislips were still pink and swollen from our kisses andIkind of wanted to mess him up a little more, regardless of who might be watching.

“Thankyou for the warning,”Adrianmanaged to say.

NowthatAdrianhad reverted to his magic-lite side again, the guy swam closer to the shore.Icaught a glimpse of a tail and a fin as the air shimmered around him and he rose out of the water.

“OhmyGod, is he a mermaid?”Ibounced inAdrian’slap.

Theguy scowled.

“Merman,”Adriancorrected.

“Ididn’t mean to offend you,”Isaid.AndIhadn’t thought this day could get any weirder.Iwas so wrong. “Soyou were right.Freshwateris okay.”Iwhispered toAdrian, not taking my eyes off the real live merman.

Adrianstarted growling again when the merman winked at me.
