Thatwas pretty damn awesome.

Iopened my mouth and closed it about ten times asIsmothered question after question.Iknew my inquisitiveness was a bit much sometimes, andIdidn't wantAdrianto toss me out on the side of the road beforeIgot my promised explanations.Suspensewas killing me though.

IeyedAdrian.Hedidn’t appear abnormal or particularly werewolfy right now, just a little rough and bloody like he’d been in a barroom brawl.Thewords “barroom brawl” immediately made me think of “BallroomBlitz.”

Ah, man.Thelast thingIneeded was another oldies song in my head.

Asthe werewolf dude merged onto the highway, he hissed in pain.Pressingdown on the gas had obviously not been good on the calf musclesBabettehad tried to sever.Moreblood ran down the guy’s pant leg and dripped to the floor.

"Areyou okay to drive?"

"I'mfine,"Adriangritted out.

"Yeah.Becausebleeding all over the place is the definition of fine."

Adriancursed as he eyed the blood-smeared seat and the blood-soaked mat on the floor.Hehit the steering wheel with the heel of his hand. "Damnit.Theupholstery is going to be ruined."

"That'swhat you’re worried about?"Irolled my eyes. "Iknow first aid.Ifyou pull over,I’llhelp you."

"Iheal quickly,"Adriansaid.

"Justnot fast enough to save your seats.Gotit."Iclenched and unclenched my fingers.Iitched to do something.Fixingup his bloodied leg seemed like a good place to start, but it didn’t look like he was going to stop and let me.

Hopefullythe guy hadn't lost so much blood he'd pass out.Hmmm…Maybewearing a seatbelt wasn't such a bad idea.Ifidgeted with the toggles on my backpack.Minutesstretched on.Adrianseemed to be holding his own and not passing out, so that was good.Butthe silence was driving me crazy.

Ashrill ring tone resounded through the truck.Itwasn’t my phone.Adrianpulled out his and swiped to answer it.

“Talkto me,Adrian,” a woman said without any greeting.Ieasily heard her side of the conversation in the quiet of the truck. “Isaacsays a goblin messed you up.Areyou okay?”

Jealousyswelled and twisted through my guts.Itried to knock it down, but damn it,Ididn’t wantAdrianto have someone in his life.Particularlynot a woman.Iwould have sworn he’d been flirting with me.Orhad that just been a ploy to get those boxes?

“I’mfine,Davie.Isaacshould have kept his mouth shut,”Adrianmuttered.

“HowamIsupposed to be the team’s second if no one tells me anything?”Herquestion was biting.

Hmm…Maybethey weren’t lovers.

“You’reon your own assignment.Youdon’t have to hold our hands when you have your own shit going on.”

Shehuffed out a breath. “Youknow what the consequences could be if anything happened to someone on the team.Noonecan lose control.”

Adrian’sshoulders slumped. “I’mfine.IfIwasn’t,I’dhave talked toTeague.”

“Okay,” she said. “YouknowIhad to check.Sometimeswhen it is just you men together, it’s like all that undiluted testosterone makes you all stupid.”

Adrianrolled his eyes. “Howis your case?”

“Moremessed up thanI’danticipated.”Shesounded almost happy about that.

“Letus know if you need anything,”Adriansaid.

“Youtoo.”Thenshe was gone without saying goodbye.

“Youknow you can connect your phone toBluetooth, right?”Iasked whenIwas sure the call had ended. “Thenyou wouldn’t do the whole distracted driving thing trying to answer it while you’re driving.”

Adrianjust shoved his phone in his pocket again.

"Ihave questions."Icouldn’t hold them back any longer.
