Marshalls winces and mutters, “Don’t do it, son. I know you want to, and I know I really do fucking deserve it, but don’t hit me because then I’d have to fucking arrest you. I’ve only just got my daughter to speak to me again.”
I know the consequences, I know I could get locked up for at least six months, but I know Trick, he’ll get me conjugal visits with my girl, so, ignoring Cage trying to keep me back, I pull my fist back and punch the fucker in the face, hard.
He grunts, his head swinging to the side with force, and I feel Crusher’s grip along with Tray’s pulling me back as I state, “That is for laying a fucking finger on my girl, splitting her lip and bruising her face! You’re fucking lucky I’m not killing you!”
Marshalls winces but nods before he grabs his cuffs from behind his back, and Cage curses, “Fuck’s sake, Chief, you hit his girl, your own daughter, if you’re going to arrest him, then you might as well fucking arrest yourself!”
Marshalls ignores Cage and reads me my rights, making me curl my lip at him.
“Liam Wilson, I am arresting you for an assault on a police officer. You do not have to say anything, but what you do say will be used in a court of law.”
I turn as my body trembles while he places the cuffs on my wrists, and I zone him and his pathetic words out, and the only regret I hold is the fact that I didn’t hit him even harder.
“Come on, Chief, this is out of fucking line!” Cage shouts, and Marshalls raises his brow and asks, “Want me to arrest you as well?”
“I’d like to see you fucking try,” Cage sneers, and Crusher pulls him back while I smirk.
“Cage, get the club's lawyer on the phone, will ya?” I state as Marshalls pulls me away from my fuming brother all while mumbling, “My fucking daughter is going to kill both of us for this,” and I retort, “Fucking worth it though,” making the man snort.
I hear Cage cursing up a storm as I’m dragged out of my gym, but all I can do is smile because despite the shit my head is currently in, hitting him has made my day fucking brighter. Even if I am being arrested, though the conjugal visits do sound fucking promising…
Chapter 29
Kodi
I slowly lean against my truck as I stare up at the place I called a job for five years, a place I used to come and hang out with my father and Benny when I was just a kid, and I swallow hard.
I never wanted this job, yet I kind of feel a little sad knowing today, I will no longer be considered an officer, that I will be handing in my badge and gun.
It’s the right move to make. Art has always been my calling, but it’s still five years of my life, you know?
I sigh, before I push off my truck, then lean through the window before grabbing my gun and badge, then slowly I walk over to the precinct for hopefully the last time with a lump in my throat.
It’s silly really, to feel sad, yet here I am but I guess my emotions have been all over the place for a while now. Nearlydying and losing a baby I didn’t even know I was pregnant with to begin with, then nearly losing Liam mentally before I finally got him to open up a few days ago after our sex-a-thon in the gym.
He’s stopped keeping me out and is leaning on me more, and I’m finally relaxing again despite the horrors of the past few months.
I still hate my body, I hate the scars, I hate that Liam sees said scars. He jokes that we can now match, and I hate that I didn’t protect our baby. With Liam by my side, I know we’ll get through everything, including deciding what he wants to do where the club is concerned.
I think he wants to stay, but he doesn’t trust them yet. Every night I’ve sat, and I’ve listened to his pros and cons, a list I encouraged him to make. I’ve never put in my two cents, and I won’t. He needs to make this decision himself, and whatever he decides, as I told him, I will stand by him.
Shaking my head, I walk into the precinct, and my brother is instantly standing before me with his arms crossed and a scowl, and I raise a brow.
“Yes, Benny?” I ask, and his scowl deepens as my lips twitch.
“You’re not quitting!” he states, “If you quit then you’ll leave and I finally feel like I’m getting my sister back after I shut down for so long. I can’t lose you, so, turn your ass back around, continue your sick leave then return all bright and bushy next month because you’re not handing in your badge!”
Okay then…
“I don’t want to be a police officer,” I admit, and his jaw ticks, but I don’t stop, “I want to paint and draw and make art come to life, to make people happy whenever they see a piece I have created, this life isn’t for me, I’ve told you this several times.”
“Yet you’re looking at schools to teach instead of creating your own art, so how is that living your dream when you can still work here and draw on the side?” he snaps, and I bite back a smirk.
Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.
“I’ve allowed Liam to convince me to open my own gallery, so I will be living my dream, I just don’t know where yet. It’ll depend on whether Liam decides to stay in the club,” I admit, and Benny drops his head, shaking it a little in defeat.
“Please, Kodi, don’t fucking leave,” he chokes, “Dad and I, we’ve messed up, Dad more than me, and you’re only now just letting us back in, please don’t leave…”
