“You’re mine,” I growled. “Mine. Mine. I fucking want you so bad. I’ve never wanted anyone like this in my life.”

She raked my back with her nails, thrusting her hips up, groaning appreciatively when I turned slightly and pulled her hips to me.

She gasped. “Yes, there. Right there.”

Her gratified words unleashed me and made me primal.

I pulled her legs farther up, and she hooked her ankles around my hips, pressing her heels into my back, and raised her hips even higher.

“Hold on,” I said, a thumb between us where she needed it. Then I pressed deeper into her, hitting her in a spot that made her gasp until we were one moving body.

“Oh God, Darcy, yes, yes,” she moaned.

“Do you know how much I want you?” With every word, I thrust harder and deeper, making my control slip.

“Me too. I want you too.”

Her head dropped back, her neck in an arch, her mouth and beautiful lips open, her body under me, heating until we were both slick with sweat. We were so real together, not fake and trying to be perfect. I felt her pulse race when she was flush against me, and she gave me her everything. My mouth was on her, and she bucked with pleasure.

“Oh God, Darcy.” Her inner walls clenched around me. “I’m…I’m coming.”

I felt like a god. I felt like this was what I’d been put on earth to do, to be with her, give her everything. I kept her hips lifted, turned mine even more, coaxing every ounce of pleasure from her.

Her body shuddered. “Oh God, I can’t bear it. Yes, yes.”

My heart thundered. I was so high, so close, the build was almost painful. A whoosh of euphoria started at the base of my spine, flashed to where we were joined and into every nerve in my body. Wave after crashing wave.

“Oh fuck,” I said, enjoying every pulse.

I’d never felt so close to anyone in my life. She was abandoned to my touch, lost in the heat of us, unguarded and free, and every inch of her set me on fire. A prolonged, excruciating bliss that had never happened to me before.

“That was so intense. How is this so good?” she asked. “So much better than ever before. What are you doing to me, Darcy?”

“It’s us. It’s us together,” I said, hearing the tenderness in my voice. “Weare so good together. This has never happened to me before either.”

I dropped down onto her, dripping with sweat. Her nearness sent a rush through me, not desire but recognition—a deep, homeward pull that settled me completely. It was like exhaling for the first time, relaxed into a place I’d always longed for.

I wanted to say I love you, I love you, I love you.

But I knew it was too soon.

Instead, I growled into her neck. “You’ve wrecked me, woman.” I wanted to stay right here forever. Us. “You’ve destroyed me.”

CHAPTER 41

Lizzy

Iwoke suddenly to a frantic knocking on the door.

I peered around at the large room, the light struggling to seep through thelong sage-green linen drapes. Darcy was stretched on his front beside me, a hand on my thigh, his face rumpled and creased but serene, the sheets twisted around his long legs.

He stirred.

Another loud knock.

“Lizzy, Lizzy! It’s Tabitha. Jane’s been trying to get hold of you. She says it’s urgent.”

Jane? She was trying to get hold of me? Why?
