The way her grin fell told me I didn't sell it.

I just wanted blood.

"Buy the pink hair dye," I said. "Make it as bright as possible."

Her eyes lit up again. "We can do it tonight."

"If all of the wolves are crazy horny, Maverick’s not letting you out of your room tonight."

"He doesn’t own me."

"You’re going towantto fuck him."

"I already did."

"I’m aware."

She sighed. "Fine. We’ll do it tomorrow morning, after you bite Rhone."

"I might not need to, if it goes well with Ryker."

She crossed her fingers.

I crossed my whole fucking heart.

If I still had one, buried beneath the bloodlust and trauma that came with my incurable disease.

Seriously, fuck vampirism.

CHAPTER TWO

harper

We metRyker in my official living space: the fourth-floor apartment Rhone kept moving my shit back to.

There was music floating out of it into the hallway, through the door that sat propped open with one of my most expensive black heels.

The red leather on the bottom was wrecked.

I should've cared, but didn't.

Bloom winced and eased it out from under the door while I stepped inside.

The couch was occupied by not one buttwoenforcer pairs. They were both making out like the other person's mouth was their only possible source of air.

I should've envied them, but I looked at them, and felt nothing.

The only person who really made me feel anything anymore was Rhone. Bloom came in second, but I actually tried with her. I didn't with anyone else.

"I'm sure this will come out," Bloom said quickly, trying to rub what was clearly a slice and scratch in the shoe’s leather.

"It won't."

My gaze landed on Ryker, who was leaning up against a wall with a bottle of beer in his hand, laughing at something another man was saying.

So unlike Rhone.

The Beta didn't possess the ability to laugh. Or even smile. That was my theory, anyway. I’d never seen him make either expression, and I saw him all the time.
