Rowan blushed adorably. “Oh. Well. See, there’s this thing that hellhounds do…”

I fully turned toward him, and I couldn’t help the wide grin on my face. “You mean there’s more than tails? Because let me tell you, the tail is phenomenal. What else you got, boo?”

I didn’t think it was possible, but Rowan’s blush got even deeper. Ohhh, so it was something sexual. Or at least there was somethingelsesexual, because he hadn’t been this embarrassed to start.

“Oh well, yes, there’s the tail. I mean, I’m a hellhound, too, so during sex…” he just sort of trailed off.

Hellhound. Sex. Then it occurred to me. I’d read my fair share of sexy romances. “Boo, do you have a knot?”

Rowan just nodded, and I leaned in to kiss him firmly on the mouth. “You’re showing me that when we get home. I can’t believe you held out this long!”

We hadn’t had penetrative sex yet, but I hadn’t been complaining. We’d kept each otherverysatisfied in a number of other ways, and Rowan’s tailalwaysmade things interesting. Suddenly, however, I needed to know what it was like to have a knot. To haveRowan’sknot. But he obviously wasn’t done.

“What else, boo? It’s okay—you can tell me.”

“So, uh, hellhounds have mates. Like, forever mates. And they won’t die, and they won’t age, and they’ll be together for, um, forever. Because they’re mates. And when a hellhound has a mate, they can always find them.”

I stared at Rowan, trying to comprehend what he was saying. Finally, I said, “You found me.”

“Yes, mate. I did. I found you.” Rowan pulled me in and wrapped his arms around me with my back against his front, so that we could both watch the compound burning. It was a really pretty backdrop for finding out we were mates, and I’d remember it forever.

“Burning shit down is definitely a special occasion thing for us,” I murmured, and Rowan just chuckled against my head, squeezing me tighter.

Author’s Note:

So, I really have no good excuse for why this chapter is late. It’s just that I needed some inspiration, because writing sex scenes can be difficult when you’ve written a ton of them. I told my bf that, and, well… he can be very inspiring.Veryinspiring. (Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.) I hope this chapter burns up your sheets (althoughnot literally, of course, because the sheet remnants from a mini-fire are a pain in the ass to clean up, and if the mattress burns, that’s a whole different mess).

ROWAN

We were making our way back to the car when we heard the sirens, and I thought about what Milo had said. He couldn’t wait to experience my knot. He seemed genuinely excited. It made me more than a little nervous, because I’d never actually knotted anyone before. After the tail incident… Well, I was careful about sex. I’d enjoyed receiving plenty of times, and the thought of taking Milo was more than a little exciting.

“Boo, what are you thinking about?” Milo asked.

“Uhhh…”

“Oh, now youdefinitelyhave to tell me.”

I could feel the heat in my face, and I blurted out, “I was thinking of you inside me.”

Milo’s laugh turned serious, and I could see from the heat in his eyes that he liked that idea.

“But I want to give you my knot, too. I want it all,” I admitted.

“Oh, we’ll get to it all, my strawberry milkshake. Now get in the damn car and take us home to fuck like bunnies.”

I laughed and got in the car, Milo getting in on the passenger side. I put the car in drive, and somehow or another we made it back to Milo’s house. We held hands for most of the ride, andeven the gentle caress of Milo’s thumb across the back of my hand was driving me crazy.

We barely made it inside the front door before the dogs were on us, tails wagging and tongues lolling. Baby sat and waited for pets like a good girl, and the little beast growled at me, gums showing. We greeted them both and let them out into the yard, barely able to wait while the two of them sniffed around and took care of business. They finally came back inside and settled down into their beds.

In the next breath, I was on Milo, my mouth open, my tongue darting out to duel with his. He tasted like crisp apples and smelled like a perfect autumn morning, and I wanted to devour him.

We were pulling at each other’s clothes, dragging off shirts and kicking off shoes, when one of Milo’s shoes flew up and smacked me in the shoulder.

“Oh my god! Boo! You okay?” he asked, and then, since I obviously was, he started giggling.

Milo’s giggles were contagious, and I found myself smiling and chuckling. I grabbed onto his face with one hand, planting a firm kiss on his lips. “I love that you’re clumsy.”
