Milo sighed. “The dog, boo. Help me with the dog.”
So I did the only thing I could, and I picked up the dog—Baby, apparently. She gave a low growl but I growled back in response, and she settled down, letting me carry her as Milo and I headed out of the warehouse.
“Well this was an eventful day. And we even have a baby together now! Who would’ve thought! We’ll have to take her to a vet to be cared for, and we’ll need to get supplies.”
Milo smiled at me, and I couldn’t help it, I smiled back.
I wasn’t planning on acquiring a dog, but if we took care of Baby together, I’d have to stay over, wouldn’t I?

Author’s Note:
Sorry this chapter is a day late. I needed inspiration, and my bf was at work, so I had to wait until he got home to experiment on him. He said he’salwayshappy to help me withanyscene I need to write, even if it isn’t torturing bad guys. Isn’t he the sweetest? (Also, I’m still sore from our…ahem… practice scene, so that’s also why I’m running a little behind. Hehe.)
MILO
We managed to find a twenty-four hour emergency vet, and they took Baby in and treated her. The outlook was good—she had a lot of bites, scratches, and gashes, but nothing appeared broken, and there didn’t seem to be any life-threatening injuries.
They wanted to keep Baby overnight to give her fluids and to observe her. She was also sedated because they’d had to stitch her up in a few different places, so Rowan and I headed back to my house without Baby.
Rowan was currently driving my truck—he’d earned it. He’d helped with all manner of things, and I’d promised him he could drive when he’d first seen the truck and admired it. He was a careful driver, always staying at the speed limit, using his blinkers, and coming to a full stop at stop signs.
It was kind of annoying. But it fit my boo perfectly—he was slow and careful about things.
And he was also apparently a hellhound. I was trying not to think about that too much, but it kept popping into my head. Rowan had turned into a giant flame-covered dog, he’d bitten and burned the bad guys, effectively killing them with a bite. He’d then unleashed that same flame on the warehouse’s dead and all the evidence.
I mean, it was really cool, but it was also crazy.
Sure, his sister was apparently a harpy, and that was also crazy, but I wasn’t dating his sister. (And yes, Rowan and I were totally dating, even if Rowan hadn’t figured it out yet. I wasn’t sure if he had.)
Was it weird that I felt weird about dating a supernatural creature? Did that make me racist? Or speciesist? Or whatever it would be called? Not that I didn’t think hellhound Rowan was cute. He was still very Rowan-like, trying not to get blood on his fur and quickly and efficiently killing whoever he needed to. But my man could, like, shapeshift and shit.
“Do you have sex in your hellhound form or just your human form?” I asked, because Rowan was sexy and all, but I wasn’t sure if I could get down with a flaming hellhound.
Rowan slammed on the brakes, and I put out a hand to brace myself.
“What?” he asked.
A car beeped behind us—luckily we were just on back roads now—and Rowan started driving again, although I could see his hands gripping the steering wheel like it was a lifeline.
“Do you have sex as a hellhound?” I asked again. “I’m not sure I’d be down for that, but I still want to know everything about you. And I would never yuck anyone else’s yum, so I won’t judge. Pinkie swear,” I promised, staring at Rowan’s profile as he concentrated on the road.
Really, he was concentrating way more closely than he needed to be.
“Uh, not really,” he answered, looking over at me before looking back at the road.
Ooo-kay… That didnotfeel like a complete answer.
“Not really?” I asked, raising one eyebrow.
The look was lost on Rowan, though, because he was very carefully looking at the road, and I figured this time it was to avoid looking at me. Well, we couldn’t have secrets between us.That wouldn’t work for a solid relationship. And since Rowan and I now had a furbaby together, we had to make sure our home environment would be a good place for kids.
Was it too soon to have Rowan move in with me?
But I was getting sidetracked. Rowan was still gripping the steering wheel and watching the road, even though we were on side streets and the road was boring.
That was fine. I could be patient. He didn’t answer, and I didn’t ask again. He very carefully and very slowly (my god, who does the speed limit??) drove us back to my house andfinallypulled into the driveway.
