I pull up Spotify, hover over a playlist for a moment, then make my choice. SZA’sJuliablasts through the speakers as I pull onto the quiet street.

Much better.

When I arrive at the shop only a few minutes later, I sit in my car a little longer than I should, watching in awe, as though a single blink could make the building vanish.

This has become a daily ritual for me.

All of our hard work is here, concrete and evident, and no words quite capture the swell in my chest when I stare at it.

It never fails to humble me.

The bright neon-purple sign,Enchanted Nook, glows below an arch of flowers, beautiful yet unmistakably artificial, spilling over a dark matte violet door. Bronze-finished handles gleam, elegant and worn, as if they’ve already lived a lifetime of stories.

After stepping out of my Bronco, I walk up and unlock the door to enter the building. Beneath my feet, black-and-white tiles stretch forward, guiding me toward the mosaic set into the floor.Enchanted.The name a promise.

The air is warm and layered with the smell of coffee, sugar, and paper. The space is dark and moody, but lush. Whimsical.

Along the walls, tall bookcases rise in deep shades of purple, rich and velvety against the low glow of the lights.

Bronze plates sit above each section, catching the light to draw your eye: fantasy, romance, mystery—each one a gentle invitation.

I run my fingers along the spines as I pass, touching the texture.

At the center of the shop, a display counter stretches out, glass gleaming under soft lighting.

Inside is where we place our fresh cinnamon rolls, thick and fluffy with frosting barely holding its shape.

Beside them, delicious gourmet cookies, as well as the month’s sugar cookies, carefully designed and impossibly charming, appear almost too beautiful to eat. Almost.

The checkout counter waits at the end, and behind it, an espresso machine hums steadily, polished and warm—the heart of the room.

Above it, the cafe menu changes with the season, offering monthly delights alongside our everyday artisan sandwiches—simple, comforting, and familiar in the best way.

I continue to walk through and drift past tables scattered throughout the space, each one styled with bookish treasures and themed items, new releases propped open as if mid-conversation.

Velvet couches and plush chairs invite you to sit, to sink in, to stay longer than planned. The fabric soft beneath your hands, making you forget about time.

In the cafe section, the energy shifts gently. Small tables and chairs situated close enough for community, but far enough apart for focus.

It’s where laptops glow beside steaming mugs, and notebooks lie open next to half-finished baked goods—where whispered conversation is comforting.

Tucked beyond the main floor is a corner of the shop that is like stepping into a different kind of magic, one made for small hands and big imaginations. A children’s area bright and cozy without appearing closed in. A space where stories float in the air before they ever reach the page. Low shelves are lined with colorful spines and well-loved tales, easy for little fingers to reach. Soft rugs cushion the floor, scattered with playful games that invite curiosity.

Every Thursday night, the space transforms into something even more special. Families gather as the lights soften and a familiar hush settles in. Children settle onto pillows and blankets while bedtime stories are read aloud, voices warm, expressive, and full of wonder. For a little while, the outside world fades away, replaced by dragons, brave heroes, gentle monsters, and happily ever-after’s.

Further back is usually where laughter spills from our classroom space. It’s where we catch glimpses of flour-dusted hands decorating cookies, a circle of readers deep in discussion, or crafting with friends. It appears alive, creative, warm, full of belonging.

Each time I step inside, taking in the scents, I realize this place isn’t meant to be rushed. It’s meant to be experienced. A place where stories aren’t only read; they’re lived, shared, and carried home long after the door closes behind you.

Chapter three

Lina

Every detail here in the shop breathes with purpose, wrapped in the kind of magic you know exists but can’t quite explain.

Nothing happened by accident.

Every bookshelf. Every light fixture. Every splash of purple. Every scent of fresh espresso mingling with warm pastries. It all tells the story of two women who refused to let a dream remain just that.
