“You know you gon’ have to come up off my assistant eventually, right?” he asked.

“But Berlin, I love him.” I stuck my lip out.

Drix’s lip lifted in disgust.

“Not only is that nigga not going to be your assistant but he might be fucking fired after that comment,” he threated.

I rolled my eyes with a smile and leaned in to kiss my adorable husband.

“You realize Steven has a boyfriend, don’t you?”

“Of course I do. That’s why I hired him.”

“You hired him because he’s gay and not because he’s qualified?”

“Come on now, Twin. Be serious. Chandler did the original vetting. His application wouldn’t have even ended up in front of me if he wasn’t qualified but I’m not going to lie. When I narrowed it down to my top three, him being gay definitely pushed him in front of the competition.”

“And why is that?” I leaned forward and propped my face on my hands.

“You didn’t want me to have a woman assistant. I picked out someone you never had to worry about me flirting with and someone I don’t have to worry about flirting with you. It was a win-win.”

“You’re annoying.” I giggled.

“Yeah, well.” He shrugged and sat back in his seat. “You know what else is annoying?”

“No, but I’m sure you’re going to tell me.”

“Why you ain’t tell me you got ran up on?”

“What?” I forced a little laugh but Drix didn’t smile.

“Why you ain’t tell me you got ran up on?” he repeated.

“I didn’t exactly get ran up on. I just sort of––”

He cut me off. “Myome, moving forward we don’t keep those kinds of secrets from each other.”

“It wasn’t exactly a secret.”

“But you knew it was some shit I’d want to know about and you didn’t tell me about it?”

“Well, I figured since it was taken care of there was no need to bother you coming off of your dad just getting home and your album coming out and keeping the label alive and well.”

“I love yo’ ass, Twin.” Drix locked eyes with me. “The best thing I’ve ever done in my entire life is marry and stay married to you. I’m not fucking around. You need to let me know when shit pops off, even if you feel like you’ve got it handled. Anything could have happened. What if Trapp pressed you again when no one was around? What if he caught you in the parking lot at night or some shit? When someone is threatening you, I need to know.”

“I hear you and I get it. I’ll let you know moving forward but I don’t think there will be any more issues.”

“Promise me.”

“I promise.”

“Thank you.” He exhaled.

“You’re welcome.” I shifted in my seat. “So what exactly did you hear?” I asked after a beat.

“That you and Charm jumped his stupid ass.”

“We did.” I smiled. “Charm hit him in the head with a lamp actually.”
