“So what’s the move? We knocking Trapp out or what?”
“Knocking out? Nah. Been there and done that. He’s got to die.”
“Word?”
“Even thinking about laying a fucking hand on my wife is a death sentence.” I locked eyes with him. “I’ve beat mothafuckas up for stepping on my shoes. The shit I’m willing to do behind the love of my life would have me put on country wide lists.”
“Fuck it. If that’s what you want to do, I’m with it.”
“Shade, I don’t need backup.”
“And? What? You putting me out your whip?”
“Nah but everybody’s not a killer and I’d be a hypocrite if I didn’t give you an option after all that ‘stay on the right path’ shit I’ve been preaching to you.”
“Nah. When people fuck with the people you love the most, you make shit shake.”
“That’s right but I stand on saying you have to know when to take it to hell and when not to. I’ve knocked Trapp on his ass more times than I could count before we got to this point.”
“I hear you.”
“Good.”
I glanced at my phone as soon as I heard the text come through, typed the address in, and headed out.
I parked two blocks from the spot and Shade and I walked down together. Between the two of us we got her cheap ass door popped open. We dug through her shit while bored. I cracked open a beer and Shade heated up some leftover Italian food they had in the fridge. He ate while I drank.
When the door creaked open a little bit later, we both freed our guns and clicked the safety off.
I walked around the room and stood beside the doorway.
Niecy was the first one through the door. I grabbed her, yanked her in, and covered her mouth. Her eyes widened and I grinned as I walked her to the kitchen table, slammed her face down on it, and put my gun to her head.
She screamed. Trapp and Retta ran into the room. Shade sent off a warning shot and aimed at Trapp.
“Drix, this ain’t got shit to do with my sister,” Trapp said quickly.
“Like getting your ego hurt because you can’t make a hit without my fucking name on it ain’t got shit to do with my wife, bitch?”
“Nobody put hands on your wife!” he snapped.
“Trust me. I know that shit because you would’ve gotten a bullet in your head before you even saw me coming.”
“Drix––”
“Let me ask you and your sister some questions.” I looked between them. “When we were just starting out and some dudetried to press you outside of that raggedy ass studio we started out in, what happened?”
“You slammed his face into the building and you and Dashawn beat the fuck out of him,” Niecy whimpered.
“That’s right, and when we went to my first big album release party and some dude hit you on your ass, what happened?”
“You, uh, you hit him over the head with a bottle.”
“And when you got called a bitch by some crazed fan outside of one of my shows?”
“You-you-you,”
“Stop all that fucking stuttering,” I warned and looked at Trapp. “You’ve heard those stories, right, Trapp?”
