My eyebrows knitted together at the sound of my voice.
“Just tell me what you want me to say,” I said softly.
“That you love me and you’re never going to leave a nigga,” Drix responded.
“Drix, I love you and I’m never, ever going to leave.”
“There we go. I like that. When you hear that shit as an intro on my album, don’t even trip.”
My laugh filled the room. “Okay, Berlin.”
“I’m Drix in the booth, baby.”
There was a brief pause before my voice came in.
“Drix,” I moaned.
Charm and I both looked at each other at the same time and the track faded and the next one started.
“What the fuck?” I looked down at my phone when I heard my voice again but quickly realized it was just me saying his name in a quiet breathy tone. He’d actually plucked a clip from our time in the studio together to make his producer tag.
“We’re on the second track and baby this album is giving very much my wife, my wife, my wife.” Charm giggled.
“Good because I love my man, my man, my man.” I stuck my tongue out and Charm laughed and kicked her feet excitedly with me.
Both of our smiles fell from our faces when the door to the studio opened and Retta stuck her head in.
We’d already recorded our parts of the farewell to Radiant Reverie song the label needed to release Charm from her contract, so all Retta needed to do was cut her verse and we could move on and never interact again.
It had been hell getting her to schedule something with us, which was insane to me when I knew she wasn’t putting out music and was damn near temporarily shelved after all the bad press she’d gotten.
Charm paused the music and adjusted how she was sitting on the couch.
“Hey y’all.” Retta smiled.
“Hey.” Charm gave her a small smile.
Retta pushed the door open wider and stepped inside. My head snapped to the side to shoot Charm a look when Niecy and Trapp walked in behind her.
“I’m sure y’all are used to having people’s men sitting in sessions considering…” She looked me up and down.
“I mean my man was producing our songs but sure.” I spun in my chair to face the soundboard and went to my messages with Alan.
Me: Finish your conversation and get back in the studio before I have all this shit knocked over.
Alan: On my way.
I opened my Skroll account for the first time in two weeks while Retta set her bag down and Niecy took a seat beside Charm. Trapp walked over and sat beside me.
“What’s up, Myome? Where’s Drix?”
“I don’t know.” I went to my page and shared his album cover.
“Man, we both know you know where that nigga is.”
“You have his contact information. Reach out to him.”
“Bitch––”
