I took a deep breath. “Yeah. Okay.”

“Myome King, you ain’t hear me tell you I love yo’ lil ass?”

I smiled. “I love you too, Berlin.”

“Yeah. I know.” He leaned down and kissed me softly on my lips then my forehead. “What do you want to eat when we get you out of here?”

I scoffed and rolled my eyes but the stupidest smile was on my face even while I pretended to be annoyed with Drix worrying about my food intake. Honestly, I’d never actually be annoyed or get tired of it.

Even with all the stupid ass drama that came with being Drix’s wife, I’d never go back and trade the year we’d been together. Fuck the drama and what everyone else was talking about. I wasn’t coming up off my husband.

Ever.

CHAPTER 3

DRIX

Ipeered through the little glass that led into the hospital’s nursery and shifted on my feet. I could see the one that belonged to Monica easily. She’d named him after me. The bitch was insane, and the more I sat with how hard she was going to try to ruin my life, the more I wanted to kill her.

Her son was a preemie. I couldn’t go in and touch him and couldn’t just swab him for a DNA test. I wasn’t listed on the birth certificate, so I was really a random man checking on someone else’s kid, despite what she said on social media.

And the fucking mother of the year was missing.

She’d checked out of the hospital and I hadn’t expected her to stick around long, but honestly, I hadn’t expected her to dip out of the hospital as quickly as she had either. She was stupid but apparently notthatstupid. I knew she’d have to come see her baby again. I also knew she technically didn’t have to give me anything when it came to the baby, but if she wanted to play publicity games, I was down with that too.

I yawned and took a sip from my energy drink.

I was exhausted.

I’d spent the night with Myome. She’d gotten discharged from the hospital and we’d gone back to her hotel where we’dshowered and fallen into bed together but I hadn’t been able to sleep. I hated the thought of her not being okay. I found myself staring at her for most of the night, counting how many times she breathed in a minute and softly tracing her with my fingertips.

The next morning, we’d gotten breakfast with Dashawn, Charm, and Allison. Then I booked Radiant Reverie a flight to the next city. They were supposed to drive it over the course of two days but I didn’t want Myome trapped in a tour bus with everyone. I wanted her to fly into the next city, then go to a nice hotel and rest, and she’d agreed to do that for me. The small peace of mind it gave me was worth every penny.

I put her on her flight then took my own back home with Dashawn. I’d watched several artists’ videos on our plane ride, but hadn’t found anything I was ready to throw money behind just yet, although I still had high hopes.

I dropped Dashawn off, called my siblings and parents to update them on what me and Myome had going on, and then came straight to the hospital.

There, I found Monica’s baby, but no Monica, and waited around to see a doctor since I was trying to see if she’d pop back up.

I briefly spoke to a doctor and she was positive I’d had a panic attack, not an anxiety attack or heart attack. There wasn’t a cure or no shit like that. They just came and went. Seeing as I’d only had one in my entire life, I honestly wasn’t too worried about it.

All the same, I’d been told to make sure I keep calm when they happened and try to focus on my breathing or other mundane things until it paused. Easy fix.

“Hey.” Chandler’s voice pulled me out of my head and I glanced over at her.

“Hey.”

“So which one is it?”

“The one with my fucking name,” I deadpanned.

“You’re kidding.” Chandler peered through the glass.

“Nope.” I set my finger on the glass where the baby was and Chandler grimaced.

“Jesus fucking…” She scoffed and shook her head. “Do you wantmeto beat her ass?”

“If you can find her.”
