“Yeah. My mom wants to get lunch.”

“That’s what’s up. Have fun.”

“I’ll try.” I looked down when her text came through. “What are you about to get into?”

“Meeting with Rome and Merch. They’re doing radio and podcast tours with their album and want to bring me in for one apparently.”

“Shit. Well, good luck.”

“Thanks.”

We left the building together and Drix walked me to my car and pulled my door open for me. We kissed briefly before I hopped in.

The place my mom had sent was only a few minutes away, so I headed straight there and got us a table on the patio.

She showed up only sixteen minutes later, a huge smile on her face as she walked toward me. She waved and I forced a smile.

Things had been fine with my parents since our dinner, but we weren’t talking or hanging out regularly, so this was a little weird to me.

She walked around the table and gave me a one-armed hug before taking her seat and setting her purse in the empty chair beside her.

“I’m glad you had time in your schedule for lunch,” she said. “I know how busy things can get when you’re trying to navigate the industry.”

“Yeah. Things have been a little crazy but I don’t have anything going on until later today.” I shifted in my seat. “How are you? How’s Dad?”

“We’re good. We’re really good.”

“That’s good. And have you talked to Zamir and Major recently?”

“Somewhat but they seem to be doing well.” She rolled her eyes and I grimaced but didn’t ask what she had going on with my brothers.

It wasn’t my business and I was sure they weren’t advocating for me when I was the one on the chopping block.

“Zamir did mention that he was working on something with you and your husband though.”

“Yeah. Drix is dealing with some weird custody thing.” I smiled as the waitress walked over and we put our orders in for drinks.

“Custody thing?” My mom circled back as soon as we had the table to ourselves. “Custody?” she repeated. “Like of a child?”

“A child that isn’t his,” I clarified.

“Then why are there custody hearings going on, Myome?”

“Because getting the law involved was the only way he could get a mandated DNA test.”

“So there’s a chance he may be the father?”

“No but she’s running around saying he is.”

“And of course he’s saying he’s not.”

“Please don’t piss me off today,” I warned with a fake smile plastered on my face.

“All I’m saying is that when your father was off running around on tour with the band, he may have had his fun but he never brought home an STD or had a public custody battle.”

“Well neither has Drix and he’s not running around to start with, so please don’t compare you and my father to me and my husband.”

She whistled.
