“A’ight.” I leaned further inside and kissed her. “Don’t wait up. I love you.”

She spoke against my mouth. “Be careful, Berlin.”

“Always, Twin. You already know.”

“Yeah, okay.” She pushed my car door open.

“Ay, girl.” I grabbed her jaw before she turned fully back toward me. “You ain’t hear daddy say he love you?”

“I love you too, daddy.”

“Act like it.” I kissed her one more time and she rolled her eyes as she hopped out. “Take care of my wife, Chandler,” I warned as I hopped in my car.

“I’ve got her.”

Rome jogged around the car and hopped in and we waited for Chandler and Myome to get in Chandler’s car before we pulled off and headed out.

I made the two-hour drive in an hour thirty and hopped out, leaving Rome to figure out the parking situation. Chandler wasn’t joking when she said he liked to stick with small venues.

I showed my ticket at the entrance.

“He’s already been performing for a little over an hour.”

“That’s cool.”

The security guard patted me down and lifted an eyebrow when he felt my gun tucked into the back of my pants.

“Ignore it,” I said. “I don’t want to turn this mothafuckin’ bar upside down but I can and will.”

“Look, man––”

I cut him off. “I’m not looking to shoot anybody that ain’t trying to shoot me, so if you’ve been doing your job right, there shouldn’t be anyone else with a gun to pull on me anyway,” I offered.

He looked both ways then nodded once.

“Fine.”

“Thanks, man.”

I slid inside and looked around the large room filled to capacity. I waded to the bar, got a beer, and held up the wall while Kevo performed.

He had a good voice on him, played the guitar, and had one hell of a stage presence. Watching him perform, I understood why he stuck to the little venues. It helped him keep up with the intimate performing that was his brand.

I walked along the wall to get toward the front. When he finished, he thanked everyone and accepted a few phones to take pictures with his fans.

“Kevo!” I barked from where I was and he did a double take before his eyebrows knitted together. “I need to holla at you.”

He nodded and waved me over.

That was all I needed. I pushed off the wall through the crowd. He told his security to let him through but I hopped on stage without needing assistance.

“Drix?” he asked.

“Nice to meet you.” I offered him a hand.

“Nice to meet you.” He shook it and nudged his head toward the back of the stage.

I followed him off and he handed his guitar to a member of the band before he showed me to a small room that had been used as his dressing room.
