“Hey! Are you busy?”

“Not necessarily. What’s up?”

“I’m about to go to the studio to work on my solo album and I was wondering if you’d be interested in sitting in, hearing some stuff, and giving me your opinion. I’m not really sure where I want to go with my solo sound and I’d love to borrow your ear.”

“Uh, yeah! Sure! What time?”

“Well, I’ll be there in like an hour but I know this is last minute so don’t feel rushed.”

“I’ll be there in an hour. Just send me the address and room number.”

“Okay. Thanks.” I hung up and shook my head. “You’re a genius,” I repeated.

We finished eating, threw away our trash, and headed back to the studio where we met up with a producer on the second floor.

Allison was there twenty minutes after us.

We spent three hours listening to beats, picking two I really liked, writing and roughly recording some stuff, but by the time we left, I felt good about what I’d put out.

I stopped by the studio Drix was usually in but it was empty so Charm and I left.

I ran through some errands, got my car detailed, had a quick call with Zamir who had dedicated himself to calling me once a week the way he’d recommended I call our parents, and picked up dinner on my way home.

When I got there, Drix’s vehicles were all parked, and when I walked inside, I knew from how quiet the room was that he was downstairs.

I expected to find him in the studio. Instead I found him in the gym, shirtless and jogging on the treadmill with his new headphones on his ears while he rapped to one of his new songs.

I quietly left him alone and lightly closed the door behind me.

I sent him a quick text, letting him know I’d gotten him dinner and it was in the kitchen, then took a long hot shower and collapsed into bed.

When he climbed in beside me several hours later, I rolled into him and buried my face in his chest. He kissed my forehead and I sighed against his skin.

“I love you,” I mumbled.

“I love you too, Twin.”

CHAPTER 11

DRIX

“Ididn’t think we’d be here again, especially so soon.” The man seated in front of me grinned and I mirrored his expression.

“What can I say? I’m an overachiever.”

“Sure you are.” He tapped his pen on the table. “You want Charm? Then let’s hear your pitch.”

“I’ll pay you back her signing bonus and her third of all costs you’ve put into Radiant Reverie. You’ll collect thirty percent of her profits from the next two albums she puts out and I’ll pay you back two mil over the course of four years, a mil for every unfinished album she’s leaving on the table.”

“Not as good of a deal as the one we got for Myome.” He lifted an eyebrow.

“Well I’m in love with and married to Myome so… That’s the numbers I have. You can take it or leave it, but we both know Charm and Retta aren’t likely to be successful long term. They’re already making bad press and fighting in public. How much more do you think either of them can take?”

“We want thirty-five percent from her next three albums and two point five mil paid over four years.”

“I can budge on the percentage. I’m not budging on the payout.”

He leaned over to the man beside him and they whispered quietly.
