“And what’s everything else?”
“As of right now, a mixed group by the name of Sundaze and Myome. I want to fill maybe four more slots, but one of those will hopefully be R&B and go to Rome anyway. You’ll take the other three, one of which is reserved for Charm.”
“And you want me to do full A&R?”
“Scouting, branding, and dealing directly with the artist. They deal with you. You deal with me.”
“I may be able to do that.”
“I don’t need someone who may be able to do it. I need someone who knows they can handle that shit.”
“Alright. I can handle it.”
“Good. You can start talent searching immediately, and as far as talent goes, I definitely want a female R&B artist, but you can freestyle on those other two. I don’t need any more rappersor pop stars though. I want something different. I don’t know exactly what just yet but I mean, it’s your job to figure it out now, right?”
“Right. I can do that.”
“Good.” I held my hand out and Allison shook it. “Welcome home.”
CHAPTER 10
MYOME
Ipushed the door to the studio open and was shocked at how empty it was. Drix was seated at the soundboard and Shade was in the booth but neither of them had their friends along.
“Are we too early?” I asked as me and Charm slipped inside.
“Nah.” Drix shook his head and looked back at us. “What’s up?” He dapped Charm from where he was sitting and leaned his head back so I could kiss him. “Shade is almost done with his verse, then I’ll get you and Charm in the booth to lay down the chorus.”
“Okay.” Charm nodded and tossed her purse on the couch.
Drix adjusted the volume on the music playing and checked his phone.
“So, Drix,” Charm said softly and we both stared at him until he looked up.
“Hm?”
“I appreciate you including me on your album and stuff but I don’t remember being pitched the track.”
“You weren’t,” he said simply.
“But they’re going to clear it, right?”
“Yeah. They won’t have a choice.” He faced forward again. “Just get in the booth and kill it. I’ve got all the behind the scenes shit taken care of. Trust me.”
“Okay.” She nodded. “I can do that.”
“A’ight then.” He pressed the microphone. “Can I get you to run through it one more time?”
“Yeah. I got you.” Shade adjusted the headphones on his ears.
“Thanks.” Drix restarted the track and bobbed his head as Shade started rapping.
He had a distinct voice that was lower than I would have guessed from seeing him and a distinct flow to match. The way he chose to flow on the beat was interesting and it was crazy to me that he was a beginner rapper and hadn’t done a lot of recording in the past.
“Do you have lyrics for me or do we need to write?” Charm asked.
“Both,” I admitted. “I started writing something but I don’t think it’s perfect just yet and I want your opinion.”
