“Thank you.” I smiled. “And I think it would be nice if you guys maybe apologized to Drix too for the way you spoke to and about him.”
My mother’s eyebrows scrunched together while her lip curled. My father shot her a look.
“We’re sorry about the way we spoke to and about you,” she sniped.
“We love Myome and just want the best for her,” my father added. “If she thinks that’s you, then we wish you the best.”
“Y’all good.” Drix glanced at me, licked his full lips, then exhaled and faced my parents again. “My bad for how I spoketo y’all too. I just love Myome and it upsets me when I see her upset.” He shrugged. “I know sometimes I react without thinking when it comes to her, but the same way she’s y’all’s baby, that’s my fucking baby, man. And when she wants to do something, I’m gon’ stand behind her and support her, but when she’s cracking around the edges I’m gon’ stand in front of her too and take that shit. That’s it. I thought I was defending her and making sure she knew I had her back. It was never meant to cause serious issues between the three of y’all, so I apologize.”
“Apology accepted.” My father grinned. “I appreciate you taking care of our girl.”
“Of course.” Drix nodded once.
“Do you speak to your parents the way you spoke to us?” my mom asked.
“Nah, but they’ve never played with Myome and they know better.” He grinned. “Your daughter is my weak spot. Everybody in my life knows that and they act accordingly and you can fact check that.”
She didn’t respond, just nodded and plucked up her menu.
“Well, I’m glad we were all able to get what we needed out.” My father looked around the table. “I’m excited for us to start over.”
“Me too.” I nodded.
Drix ran his thumb over the back of my hand.
“Me too,” he repeated.
CHAPTER 9
DRIX
Ilooked back as the studio door opened and Genie sauntered in, a baby cradled in one arm, a huge bag on her shoulder, and a car seat in her other hand. I cut the music and put my blunt out immediately.
“Sorry I’m late. My sitter canceled and my baby daddy is nowhere to be found.”
“Nah. You good.” I pushed back and climbed to my feet. “Ay, get me a fan and prop that door open, bruh.”
“Yeah. I got you.” Alan hopped up from where he’d been sitting beside me at the soundboard and made his way toward the door.
“Sorry,” Genie repeated and exhaled. “Just give me like twenty minutes to get him down and I have noise canceling headphones for him so I should be able to record afterwards. I promise.”
She looked around the room and cleared her throat. I was ready to lock my album down but I was giving my artists a chance to pitch for a feature.
Rome was seated on the couch while Dashawn was in the booth laying down the verse we’d agreed on. I’d met with Sundaze early in the day and had got their vocals cut for the songI was doing with Bino. They were doing the chorus and I was excited about it. I’d already gotten Bino’s verse and made sure it all sounded good, so that song was locked in.
My song with Rome was perfect as well.
I was at the finish line and only had two more potential songs to add.
Ideally I’d have me, Dashawn, and Genie on a song then me, Shade, Myome, and Charm on something. I’d call it done after that.
The album was shaping up nicely and I planned on having the final version ready in a week or less.
I gave Genie a sympathetic smile.
“You good.” I looked at my watch. “You need someone to watch him for the day?”
“Well, it’s usually a neighbor and we have a payment plan working so…” Genie shifted on her feet.
