“Okay.” She walked around me and yanked the door open. “Then I’m going to head back to work.”

I didn’t respond. I just grabbed the door from her and held it open while she filed inside. Rome and I followed her and made our way straight to the front door.

“That went well.” Rome yawned and stretched his long arms over his head as we headed toward the parking lot.

“Yeah. It was cool. My rap slots are full now too.” I looked back at him.

“You going to pick up Merch?”

“Shit. Probably,” I admitted. “I just need another woman who’s real R&B heavy to add on too.”

“You looking at any already?”

“Nah. That’s your job, remember? You said you wanted to help me scout, so scout, nigga.” I unlocked my car.

Rome chuckled. “I’ll see what I can do.”

His eyebrows knitted together and I didn’t need to know what he saw before I pulled my piece and spun around, finger already on the trigger.

The dude running up on me was the same one who’d nudged me earlier. He and his two friends froze once I had my gun pointed at his head. I didn’t talk or give him a chance to say anything. I shot that nigga in his foot then ran up to his closestfriend and knocked him upside his head with my gun. Rome ran around the car and popped the other one. I put my gun to the dude’s head and Rome followed suit.

“You know I could kill you and get off right now, right?” I checked. “It’s two of us and way more of y’all. Y’all followed us out to this dark ass parking lot and I’m feeling more scared for my life as time goes on.” I nudged his head with my gun. “That shit gon’ sound more convincing coming from my lawyer who I pay well to make sure I get off for shit like this.” I nudged his head with my gun again.

“Man…”

I cut him off. “Shut up.”

I cocked my gun then leaned down and ran his pockets. I took all the money and cards out of his wallet, his license, pictures of his bitch and all, before I shoved his head into the gravel and moved over to his friend holding his foot and whining like a lil bitch. I took a knee to run his pockets as well.

“Stop all that fucking crying and shit,” I snapped as I grabbed money from his wallet and tossed the empty wallet on his chest. “Ay, run his shit too and let’s go.”

Rome quickly robbed the dude in front of him and I nodded in support before clocking the dude in front of me across the head and slumping him. I dragged his body to the side and Rome followed my lead, knocking his guy out and moving him as well.

I kicked the dude with the shot foot two times for good measure then hopped into my ride. I peeled off as soon as Rome was inside.

I had an early morning of meetings with potential artists ahead of me. I couldn’t stay out all night fucking around with these bums.

“At least you got your thirty dollars back.” I shrugged.

Rome laughed loudly and I shrugged again before joining him. Typically it was me and Dashawn doing stupid shit, but I knew Rome always had my back.

I glanced at him while he counted the money he’d gotten, shook my head, and threw some music on.

I checked my phone with one hand as I drove and saw Monica had posted her son. She’d fled the United States and was somewhere overseas, allegedly spending one on one bonding time with her son and trying to ignore all the hate she was getting. The bitch was stupid.

I commented a pair of eyes on her post and not only was my comment deleted seconds later, but I was blocked.

I screenshot that shit, locked my phone, tossed it in my cupholder, and drove Rome straight to his spot so I could get my ass home to Myome, where I belonged.

CHAPTER 8

MYOME

Igrunted and cursed as I swung the tennis racket in my hand and missed. I shook my head and walked along the court, both hands on my back while I tried to catch my breath. Chandler had invited Charm, Hazel, and me out to the tennis court. Although we’d all accepted, she was the only one who played regularly and we were all winded and sweating.

“I don’t know how much more of this I can take.” I tilted my head back and did my best to focus on breathing.

“We can take a break, y’all.” Chandler laughed as she moved her racket from one hand to the other. “We’ll do badminton next time,” she offered. “It’s easier.”
