“A’ight. Cool. I can do that.”

“Good.”

We both looked back toward the front door as the doorknob turned. I climbed up, dusted my pants off, and made my way over.

The second Monica’s dad pushed his front door open, I popped him in his mouth, yanked him inside, and started beating his old ass. I’d warned him to gather his daughter and warned his daughter that her pops would have to take an ass whooping on her behalf. Shit may have been a joke to him, but it wasn’t to me. They were playing with my life and I couldn’t let it slide.

I hit him in the face over and over again.

Dashawn whistled a few seconds in and jerked me off him.

“I think you got him.” He hit me on my back.

I shook my hand out and nodded.

“Yeah, a’ight.” I looked down at Monica’s dad laid out on the floor holding his face while he groaned and slightly rocked side to side.

“Tell your daughter to holla at me.”

I moved to the door and yanked it open. Dashawn snickered as he followed me out.

I checked my email on my phone while we walked down the street to Dashawn’s car. Then we ran a few errands, checking inon the label’s building and dropping in on my newly acquired fast food joint. The fact that Myome had even thought to put in money for me to be a part business owner was crazy to me. It just made me appreciate her and the type of woman she was more though.

I glanced at my phone and picked up almost immediately when I saw Bino calling.

“What’s up?”

“What’s up? I heard Radiant Reverie was done with their tour.”

“Yeah. They just wrapped last night.”

“Tell your wife I send my congratulations.”

“She likes flowers, her music shared, and features.”

Bino chuckled. “A’ight. I got you.”

“Good look. What can I do for you, man? I already signed off on that feature.”

“Yeah, I know, but I actually called about something else.”

“A’ight. Don’t beat around the bush. Let’s hear it.”

“You said you’d owe me a favor and I want to collect.”

“How?”

“I have a big performance coming up and I want to bring you out to perform our new song and maybe even one of your own.”

“Some unreleased shit?” I guessed.

“Beggers can’t be choosers. I’ll take what I can get.”

“When is the performance?”

“In a month.”

“A’ight. I can do that. Just let me know when you want to start rehearsing together and I’ll make time for it.”
