“Hey.”
“Hey? Is everything okay?”
“Yeah. Everything is fine. I was just calling about the flash drive you gave me.”
“Okay? Is it working?”
“It’s working and the instrumentals are amazing. They actually really helped me focus and get back to writing, so thank you.”
“Of course. I’m glad you like them. I’ve had those tracks locked up for what feels like forever. I’m happy they’re being heard by someone who isn’t me and have a chance to actually go out into the world.”
“Well, speaking of it going out into the world… We, uh, don’t have anything in writing that it’s okay for me to use the instrumental.”
“Oh.” He paused for a beat. “Did you have something for me to sign?”
“Yeah. I think Drix has something here at the label, so if you have time to drop by at any point, it’ll be here. Don’t feel pressured though,” I added. “And there’s no rush. I just wanted to put it on your radar.”
“No. No. It’s fine. Are you there now?”
“Yeah, but like I said, there’s really no reason for you to rush over here just to––”
He cut me off. “I’m already on my way, Myome. I’ll see you in fifteen minutes.”
“Are you sure?”
“Positive.”
“Okay… Thank you.”
“See you soon, sweetheart.” He hung up and I tossed my phone on the soundboard.
I wasn’t sure why I was nervous but my stomach was doing flips when I got the call that my father had arrived at the building. Charm and Drix were both in the studio with me at that point, so I knew everything would be fine, but no matter how logical I tried to be, it didn’t help.
“Hey. Are you okay?” Charm leaned forward to get a better look at me from where she was sitting. “You look like you’re going to be sick?”
Drix looked up from his phone.
“Yeah. I just feel… anxious.”
“In a bad or good way?”
“I don’t know.”
“It’s a’ight to be nervous about something that matters to you.”
“Yeah and I’m proud of you for calling him so soon.” Drix reached over and set a hand on my knee. “Do you need me to meet with him for you?”
“No. I can do it.”
“Okay. You want us to stay or go?”
“Uhm… I’ll go to him actually.” I hopped up.
“You sure?”
“Yeah. Positive. I’ll meet him at the elevator.”
“Alright. Well, let him know it’s a basic contract with royalty and flat rate options available. I’ve got both contracts right here. Let him choose which one, then sign it in blue ink.”
