“Nah. I’m reminding you that you have a history of passing out and medical accommodations are accepted, not just for you, but for everyone.”

“I’m okay,” she assured me. “I promise. Me and Charm used to sing and do full choreography. I can handle cardio while singing.”

“Well, if you start to feel bad, fall back. I’m serious.”

“Okay. I will.”

“Okay.” I leaned down and kissed her. “I’m holding you to that.” I looked at my watch. “You hear from your girl?”

“My girl?” she repeated. “Genie?”

“Yeah.”

“No, but I’ve called her. A lot.” Myome exhaled. “Should I… drop by?”

“Nah. I got it. I have a few hours until my sessions, so I’ll do it. I’ll be in the studio until about an hour before rehearsal, so I’ll come home to scoop you between. Afterwards we can head straight to family dinner.”

“Okay. Well, I’m going home and spending some time in our studio with Charm I think.”

“So your music is flowing?”

“Somewhat.”

“Good. Congratulations.”

“Thank you, baby.” Myome glanced up at me. “You sure you want to be the one to check on Genie?”

“I’m positive. I’ve got it. Come on. I’ll walk you to your car.”

Myome slid her hand into mine and I made sure she was safely on the road before I hopped in my truck and headed to the hotel.

I remembered which room she was in, so I went straight there and banged on the door. I waited for a moment then another before I knocked again.

I didn’t hear anything inside so I pulled my key from my pocket and scanned inside.

Genie screamed as soon as the door opened and I walked further inside and closed it behind me.

“Stop all that fucking screaming,” I groaned.

“Drix, what are you doing here?”

“Well, you didn’t show up to practice and Myome was worried about you so.” I spun around and froze.

Genie was standing near the bed, her son in her arms, with a big ass black eye.

“Don’t look at me like that,” she muttered.

“Like what?”

“Like you pity me.”

“I didn’t say that shit. You did.”

“You didn’t have to say it.”

“The only women I’m interested in arguing with have my last name, so take some of that attitude out of your throat,” I said. “I’m here to check on you because you didn’t show up for rehearsal and Myome is worried about you. That’s it.”

“Yeah, well, I couldn’t exactly show up with my face looking like this, Drix.”
