He picks up on the third ring.“Dion, it’s me, Grayer.I need a favor if you’re in the neighborhood.”

“What do you need?”he instantly replies.

The sound of footsteps makes me turn and see Z strolling toward me.“My old lady wants to return to work today.”

“Gotcha,” Dion rumbles.“We can be there in half an hour.”

“Appreciate it, brother,” I reply and disconnect the line.

The smile she gives me is like our connection; one in a million...when she says, “Did you manage to make it as safe as you possibly can?”

“I’m still going to make you wear a Kevlar vest and take the bullet proof SUV instead of putting you on the back of my bike,” I tell her.

She sighs overdramatically.“Will I ever get to ride on the back of your bike?”

Roux snorts and I throw the fucker a glare.

Directing my attention back on my woman, I let her know, “You’ll be on the back of my bike soon enough.Probably the same day we’ll head to the courthouse.”

Her eyes widen and I shoot her a smirk right before I turn to Roux.“All clear?”

The sound of crutches makes my head turn in the direction of the hallway.I lift my chin in greeting to Stellan who is walking into the main room. His recovery is going great, even if he probably needs to use the crutches a few more weeks.

“All good.I’ll keep an eye open.Who’s going with you?”Roux asks.

“Me, where are we going?”Fenrin asks as he walks into the main room with Malic right behind him.

“Both of you are coming with us to the clinic. My old lady is going to work for a few hours.Take your bikes, one in front of our SUV, one behind.Malic, you’re going to ride behind us and stop for coffee, you know where. Now, let’s head out. We’ll arrive the same time as Dion.”I hold my hand out to Z and she laces her fingers with mine.

Like her, I hate the fact that we can’t take my bike. The reminder of not being able to and the feeling of putting our life on hold is damn frustrating.Who knows, the bitch might never show up, and maybe she will. The uncertainty is maddening.

It’s why I scan our surroundings with hawk eyes even if Roux gave the all clear.I’m still on edge once we’re safely inside the SUV, and the feeling doesn’t go away until she’s safely inside the clinic. She’s finally able to do her job and the smile on her face is worth the stress of keeping her safe.
