We’re having dinner together after an intense day at college. I’ve taken on a lot more work by taking on Professor James’ classes on top of the responsibilities as Dean, but it’s worth it, every added hour led me toher.To the woman I’m going to spend the rest of my life with.
“I’m face timing my parents tonight to discuss a few things, and I’d like you to be there. I want them to meet you.”
“Umm, no thanks,” she responds as she takes another mouthful of the pasta I cooked for us.
“Sweet pea.” I wait until she turns to me before continuing. “I wasn’t asking.”
“Sounded like you were.”
“You’ll be there.”
“Hudson, I am not meeting your parents. They’re the frigging Davenports.”
“So am I.”
“Yeah, but you’remyDavenport. That’s different.”
Fuck, baby.I don’t think she has any idea how good that sounded.
“I am yours, baby girl, which is why I need you to meet my parents.”
“Why?” she whines as pushes her empty bowl away from her.
“Because you’re it for me and they need to meet the woman I plan on spending the rest of my life with.”
“Ohh,” she breathes as her eyes widen at my confession.
“Come on, let’s call them in the study and then once you’ve met them you can go have a bath while I discuss business with them.”I don’t have any business to discuss. I just need them to meet her.
“I’m not happy about this,” she mutters as I pull her toward my study.
“Noted.”
I perch her on my lap as I dial my dad’s office. He’ll still be at work and mom’s got the office next door to his.
“Son,” he barks. He’s not looking at the camera; his gaze is fixed on the screen to the side as he continues typing.
