We sit around that table looking at harmless bits of paper for far too long.

“A ring?” Ava shrieks next to me. She has definitely caught up, in fact, I think she might have now taken the lead on the drunk front.

“Yep. It was stunning,” I reply dreamily.

“So you’re engaged and you didn’t tell us?” Bella hiccups from my other side. “I can’t believe you didn’t tell us.” She goes to hit me on the arm but completely misses.

“I’m not engaged,” I slur. Yeah, I’m not sober either.

“I’m too drunk for this,” Harper mumbles from the chair across from me. “Are you, or are you not engaged?”

“Not,” I say as I nod my head. Wait no, I’m meant to shake it for no. I end up doing some weird circular motion instead.

“I want to see it.”

“There is no ring, Bella, he’s just…he’s just — what is he doing, Mia?” Ava questions.

“I don’t know,” I cry as I drop my head to the table. “I don’t know what we are.”

“You’re together,” Harper replies with conviction. “That’s all that matters.”

“Right.”

“On that note, ladies, I’m going to go and have phone sex with my fiancé because this lady is a horny drunk.”

“Me, too,” Ava jumps up and they both stumble toward the bedrooms.

“Do it quietly,” I shout after them. “We don’t all need to hear it.”

“You just phone yours.”

“I’m horny,” I immediately announce down the line.

I lie on my bed and snuggle down under the covers; this bed is really comfy.

“It sounds like you maybe want to go to sleep more.” I hear him laughing down the line, but I can’t quite remember what we were talking about.
