She didn’t have to think long about that. Her answer came almost instantly. She would be devastated. That told her all she needed to know.

Elizabeth nodded.“All right. But you need to tell me everything you find out about Michael.I don’t want you leaving anything out.”

He stared at her for a moment and she wondered if he was going to call it all off, but after what felt like forever, he nodded.

“I don’t like it, but okay.”

“Thank you.”She stretched up and puckered her lips.Kevin bent and kissed them.

“Where did you leave your keys?”

“For the car?”she asked with a frown.

“Your apartment. And I’ll need the address, as well as a list of what you want to move in here, what you want to put into storage and what to get rid of.”

“I’m not sure there’s room for my stuff.”

“Babe, this stuff is just shit.If you don’t like it, replace it.Bring your shit, toss it all, and buy new, I don’t care.”

Elizabeth stared at him for a moment wondering if it was true. Was he really okay with her getting rid of everything if she wanted?

“I’ll think about It.it will take me a few hour to wander through here and decide what I want to do, is that okay?”

“That’s fine, sugar. But don’t take too long.I want to send the prospects over to take care of things.”

Elizabeth nodded. She had a lot to think about, and she suspected there was more about Michael that Kevin hadn’t told her yet, but he would. She trusted him.She trusted Kevin more than she’d trusted anyone else in a long time.

Chapter Thirteen

“Letmecleanthisup and then we can go sit down and you can tell me everything you’ve found out,” Elle said, pulling away.

“Leave it,” Hex said, snagging her arm and pulling her back against him.“I’ll take care of it later.I didn’t ask you to move in to cook and clean for me.”

“Can I at least put the dishes in the sink and run some water to make it easier later?”

He took a deep breath and let it out in a rush.“I guess, but you’re not doing it alone.”He released her, then slid off his stool and followed her around the island. In only a couple of minutes they had everything put away and the dishes sitting in a sink full of hot soapy water.

“Let’s grab something to drink and head into the other room. We’re still looking into Anderson, but we’ve found a few things you should know, even if I wasn’t going to tell you everything.”

Elle nodded then fixed herself a glass of ice water.Hex refilled his coffee and followed Elle into the living room. She stood looking from the sofa to the recliner and back again, as if she was having a hard time deciding where to sit.Hex went to the couch, took a seat, and let her decide if she wanted to sit with him or put some distance between them.He watched as she hesitated for a moment then sat beside him.

“All right. How bad is it?”she asked.

Hex was silent for a moment as he tried to decide where to start.

“Did you know he goes to Biloxi at least one weekend a month?”

Elle nodded.

“Yeah. He said he had to meet with his broker.”

Hex blinked. He knew that realtors worked with brokers. It was part of the process but a broker in another state? That sounded off, unless he was selling property in Mississippi too.

“Did he have a lot of listings in Mississippi?”Hex raised one brow.

“Not that I know of.”Elle tilted his head to one side as her eyes rolled up as if she was looking at the ceiling.“I don’t know of a home he’s dealt with across the state line. They’re almost always in Mobile, though different areas, a few in the outskirts, but I never heard of him selling in Mississippi.I don’t think he's even licensed there.”She frowned.“Wait.If he’s not licensed in Mississippi, why is his broker in Biloxi? Is the broker licensed in both states?Something’s not right here.”She turned to look at Hex.“Why didn’t I notice this before? What’s he really doing in Biloxi at least once a month, sometimes more?”

Hex shifted, twisting in his seat and pulling one knee up onto the cushion of the sofa as he faced her.He watched her for a moment, trying to gauge her state of mind and how she might handle what he knew he had to tell her.
