“A little.”

“Do you remember the finish?”

Keaton kept his eyes on mine. “I remember taking the opening, and then realizing I shouldn’t have.”

The doctor kept talking, but those words stayed with me. He’d known. In the moment before everything went black, Keaton had known I’d trapped him.

Coach Phil moved beside him. “We’re taking him back to medical.”

“I’m coming.”

The doctor glanced at me. “You can follow, but you need to give us room.”

“I will.”

Coach Phil helped him stand, and everything in me braced when he swayed.

“I’m fine,” he grumbled.

“You were unconscious less than five minutes ago.”

“Thanks. I almost forgot.”

“Not funny.”

He gave me a small smile. “I know.”

The doctor stepped to his other side. “Slowly. Take your time.”

Coach Isaac caught my elbow before I could follow. “Gloves.”

I glanced down at my hands.

Right.

He cut the tape and worked the gloves off, but before I could follow Keaton, another doctor stepped in front of me.

“Quick check first,” he said.

“I’m fine.”

“Then this won’t take long.”

Coach Isaac’s hand landed between my shoulders. “Let him do what he needs to.”

I hated every second of it, but arguing would only keep me from Keaton longer.

The doctor checked my eyes, asked if I was dizzy, looked over my face, and gave me a quick nod. “You’re cleared.”

I climbed down from the cage, while the crowd pressed close to the barricades, yelling my name and reaching for me, trying to make the moment something I couldn’t give them. Security held them back, and Grant appeared at my side before anyone from the promotion could stop me.

“Post-fight interview,” a guy from the promotion called.

“No.”

“It’ll take two minutes.”

Grant stepped in. “Not now.”
