Sleeping with your new judge boyfriend?
No…Yes.
Is it good?
Best I’ve ever had.
So, meeting up with you tonight to show you what I found on him is out of the question?
Absolutely. I’m at his place right now…
What about this weekend?
We have plans. He’s taking me on a private dinner and we’ll probably have sex after that.
Okay…What about next week?
How about we take it easy and say three weeks from now?
Jesus Christ…

Three Weekends Later
Islid into a booth at Whimstery Café, donning a black hoodie and sweats like Max always insisted. I’d left my cell phone in my car and “all other electronic devices” at home.
The only thing I forgot was the tin foil hat I made him—along with a much-needed copy ofHow to Stop Being So Paranoid.
Seconds later, Max stepped into the café in all-black and a pair of oversized sunglasses.
He scanned the empty room for what felt like forever before squinting at me.
After grabbing a coffee, he pressed his back against a wall and slowly stepped toward me like he was filming a scene inMission Impossible.
“There’s no one in here except us and the baristas, Max,” I said as he neared. “Be serious.”
“I am being serious.” He sat across from me. “This location is now secure for our conversation.”
“Good to know.” I sipped my drink. “So?”
“You want the good news or the bad news about Judge Ashton first?”
“The good news.”
“There is no good news.”
“Okay…” I crossed my arms. “What’s the bad news?”
“That he might be the most un-fucking corrupt legal person on this planet,” he said. “He’s an asshole, but he’s an ethical asshole.”
“How is that bad news?”
“Because there was very little for me to find.” He slid me a thin folder. “He’s very meticulous—across all eighteen of his email addresses—even the ones that can’t technically be linked back to him.”
