A chill ran down Ramiel’s spine and he shuddered, both awed and freaked out.“I take it that was the Mad Prophet?”he asked.

“Yep,” Terry confirmed with a grin.“Xathan’s the only other person who uses this channel.”

“Xathan?”Ramiel asked sharply.“Rahab’s advisor is in cahoots with the prophet?”

“He’s in Manhattan and he works for Governor Giamano,” Terry said.“We don’t know where the Mad Prophet’s base is.Who is Rahab?”he queried.

Now it was Ramiel’s turn to tell them what he knew. There was no point in keeping it a secret. The cat was well and truly out of the bag by now.

“I’m so glad we left Manhattan while we still could,” Terry said when he was done.“It sounds like the war is going to happen in the city where we used to work.”

“I have a request,” Ramiel said now that he’d ascertained that they could be trusted.

“Sure,” Terry agreed.“What do you need?”

“A bullet is lodged in my back,” the knight said.“Can one of you dig it out for me?”

“I’ll do it,” one of the females offered.“I’ve had some first aid training and we have a fully stocked first aid kit.”

“I’d appreciate it,” Ramiel said.He took his shirt off and turned his back when she went to retrieve her gear.

“I can’t see a bullet hole anywhere,” she said in confusion.

“My brothers and I heal very quickly,” Ramiel told her.“The bullet is lodged somewhere near my right shoulder blade.”

She felt around until he told her she’d located the projectile.“Brace yourself,” she warned him, then cut him open with a scalpel.

Chapter Eighteen

––––––––

“SON OF A BIARCH!”CATERINAshouted when she suddenly felt like she was being stabbed in the back.Staggering off the freeway, she lurched over to some trees and dropped down onto a log.Clenching her teeth, she shucked off her bags, then hunched forward, holding onto her knees.

Hot pain sliced into her again, then it felt like someone was digging around inside her flesh. It felt so real that she had to turn her head to make sure she really was still alone.Tears squeezed from her eyes as she waited for the torment to end.

Finally, it was over and the agony slowly began to ebb.“Who the hell just dug that bullet out of my alien?”she asked hoarsely. There was no way anyone could have operated on themselves like that. While Caterina was flexible, she had her limits. Not even she could have used a scalpel and what had felt like tweezers to extract a bullet from right next to her shoulder blade.
