“I can’t remember what happened to him,” Urzra said.“I just remember him being his usual crazy, heroic self.”
“He sounds like he must be a real character,” she said in amusement.
“He is,” Urzra confirmed.“I wonder if he’s dead yet,” he mused.“Ziegel is always the first knight to die in every single war we’ve ever had.”
“Wow, he must be unlucky,” his female figured.
“It’s a mystery why our brother suffers the same fate every time,” he said with a shrug.“I’m going to see if I can wash out the bed of the truck with something. It will draw wild animals after us if I leave it the way it is.”Bria nodded and he ambled back outside.
Chapter Thirty
––––––––
“WE’RE NEARLY DONE NOW,” Amaros said to his second in command. They were working on installing ensuites in the bedrooms that weren’t in use.Reegan had installed all of the plumbing for them.Sinai had duplicated the materials they needed. Now they were all working together to install showers, vanities and toilets. The ensuite walls would be built last.
“We get a lot done when all of us pitch in,” Cam said, wiping sweat from his forehead. His blond hair was plastered to his scalp. It was sweaty work with the two of them hunched in the corner of the room, putting the equipment together.
“Damn it!”Jac hissed from two rooms down the hallway when he dropped his wrench on his foot.
“Jacquin!”Tor complained all the way from the north wing.“Did you have to drop that thing on your toe?Why aren’t you wearing shoes?”
Jac hunched his shoulders as Arkas snickered at him.“Be glad your mate can’t zap you in retaliation without hurting herself, too,” Ark joked.
“We can’t hurt each other deliberately,” Jacquin reminded him.“But my female does sometimes electrocute me by accident when she gets excited,” he whispered.
All of the males were working in the south wing. They overheard him and shared chuckles.
“I read that in your mind, you idiot!”Tori shouted.“You’ll pay for that!”
A look of panic came over the knight. He abandoned Arkas to try to smooth things over with his mate.
Semiaza shook his head at Tolas.“Jac should know better than to gossip about his female,” he said in disapproval.
Tol nodded in agreement.“Wynter would freeze my manhood if I disrespected her like that.”
Kochab winced in the room next to theirs.“I’m not sure even Qi could heal a frostbitten peen,” he said.
