“Boyfriend?”
I flick him on the forehead. “Yes, dipshit. We’ve been through this. Boyfriend. Now, wear something cute, I’m taking you clubbing.” I climb off him.
“Like a date.”
I tug him off the bed. “Notlikea date. Anactualdate.” I give him a quick kiss. As his eyes flutter closed, Igrip his shoulders, spin him, and smack his ass. His hands fly to his cheeks as he yelps and jerks.
“Shower, wear something cute. I’ll be back in an hour to pick you up.” I blow him a kiss and turn, walking swiftly downstairs and out to my car. I blow out a breath. I’m really doing this.
A boyfriend. I shake my head and laugh. I have a fucking boyfriend.
I drive the short distance home, rushing through the door, up the stairs, and diving straight into the shower. I scrub, trim, and shave. I groan, fuck, I need to be inside him again. I can’t believe I’m being all fucking needy and shit.
Normally, I’m a one-hit wonder, fuck ’em and chuck ’em, but less nasty. They try again, but I set my boundaries. With Scott, I just can’t get enough of him. Everything about him has me wanting—no,needing—him.
I never thought I would ever feel like this, least of all about Scott. He’s been my almost-brother for as long as I care to remember. That night, the one that changed it all forever, was when I truly saw him, saw the man he had become, and now I just can’t get enough.
I climb out of the shower, wiping my hand down the mirror and staring at the smudged reflection. I toss a smirk. As I run my fingers through my hair, scrubbing a little product into it, letting it fall where it wants. I wrap a towel around my waist and one over my shoulders as I walk into my room, heading to the wardrobe. I peruse everything and grab out a pair of ripped jeans and a white vest top. I’ll pair my worn military shirt with my military boots.
I spray my aftershave and moisturise my face. My five o’clock shadow is neatly trimmed. I drop the towel, letting it pool at my feet, and I get dressed.
I look around the room, pick up the towels and dirty clothes, take them into the bathroom, come back, and straighten the bed. Finally, I snatch up my wallet, my phone, and order an Uber.

Chapter 40
I’m pacing the living room when a car pulls up. I dart to the window, and Steven chuckles.
“Chill, dude. You guys have gone out hundreds of times before.”
“Yes, but not like this, Steven. What if it all comes crashing down around me? I can’t lose him.”
“What if it doesn’t? If it does, it will be awkward for a bit. But you know, Killian, man, he’ll always look out for you. Just go have fun. I won’t wait up.”
Laughing, he turns back to his game, and I make my way to the door. The knock startles me. I pull the door open, and he’s there. He’s wearing the white tank with that military shirt that I fucking love him in. His jeans are stuffed into his combat boots, his tattoos crawl up his neck, and his shirt sleeves are rolled up, showing off his thick forearms. My mouth waters. He leans against the doorframe and tosses me a wink.
“Fuck, you look hot.” He steps towards me, his hand snakes around my waist. He crashes my body into his and kisses me. I melt into him, my body moulding to his. My tongue slides over his, and I groan into the embrace, sliding my arms around his neck as he does the same, pulling me closer. I whimper, actually fucking whimper. He pulls back, gives me the biggest grin, takes my hand, turns and leads me down the path towards the Uber that’s parked at the curb.
I’m starting to question my outfit choice, but it’s too late now. He opens the car door for me and steps to the side. I shuffle over, and he gets inside. He sits as close as physically possible, his leg pressed up against mine. He tells the taxi driver where to take us before resting his hand on my leg. He leaves it there, and I stare down at it. His large hand and thick fingers grip my thigh, his thumb rubs absently over the fabric of my jeans, and I swallow hard.
He makes me feel giddy and overwhelmed, and a little out of control. My heart pounds as the warmth from his hand sears through the denim. I stare down at his hand, the tattoos start on the back of it and creep all the way up his arm. I know where else they go. I start to fidget. I can feel him gazing at me, and I meet it with mine.
“You good, Nerd?”
I give him a curt nod and sit back in my feelings. I’ve never been on an actual date before, not like this, with him. He makes me nervous and excited but overstimulated at the same time. I want him to wrap me in those muscular arms and hold me tight. I’ve been out with him millions of times; he’s fun, playful, and always touchy, but this time it feels so different. More… intense, more important.
The car pulls up, and we climb out. People are already queuing for the club, a mile long, but Killian takes my hand and walks to the front. The bouncer nods to him, and we step through. Killian claps him on the shoulder, winking and pulling me along behind him. The girl at the kiosk to pay sits straight and tucks her hair behind her ear.
“Hi, Killian.” She bats her eyelashes at him, and he leans toward the glass.
“Hey, sweetheart.” He gives her a genuine smile, and she flushes a little and nods towards the door. “He’s with me.”
“Oh. Okay.” Her own smile drops, and she gives a tight-lipped greeting, and we walk straight in.
He leads me to the bar. People stop and turn, their faces lighting up as he passes. He gives some of them a nod, and others he claps on the shoulders as we walk by before we reach the bar. He puts me in front of him and presses me against the bar as he wraps his arms around me, resting his cheek against mine.
“What’s your poison?” he whispers across my cheek, his breath skating across my skin, making me shudder.
