“Maci.” I liked Mike. He didn’t lie.

Mike pushed me over to an SUV, which was parked wonky, and I realised he’d seen what was happening and pulled over to help. That made me feel even better. Mike helped me in, and Raven and Robin both sat next to me.

“Do you go to school here?” Raven questioned.

“No, I have a tutor.”

“What’s that like?” Raven asked.

“Isn’t that lonely?” Robin demanded.

“Girls, hush a minute. Where are we going?” Mike interrupted.

“Um, I don’t know the name of the road,” I said, biting my lip. Mommy and Daddy had told me loads of times, but I forgot straight away.

“That’s a problem. Perhaps I should take you to the police station,” Mike suggested.

“Nope. We hate the cops,” I replied, and Mike looked puzzled. “If I can sit there, I can direct you.” I pointed to the passenger seat.

“Okay,” Mike agreed. Both Raven and Robin complained, but Mike got out and carried me around. Now, I felt like a big girl. I wasn’t usually allowed in the front, so this was a big deal.

“Continue straight down this road and at the lights go right,” I instructed Mike. He smiled and pulled out into traffic.

I directed Mike up to the main road that led to the compound, and Mike frowned. “Honey, are your Mommy and Daddy Royal Bastards?”

“Daddy’s called Soul.”

“Ah, shit,” Mike muttered. He pressed some buttons on the car’s touchscreen, and his phone began ringing. It rang out, and Mike growled and dialled someone else.

“Maybe I should have waited for Daddy, but I thought I was a big girl,” I said to Mike.

Mike nodded. “Maci, there are a lot of bad people in the world. Next time, stay where it’s safe,” he warned. I agreed. Mike was right. I wouldn’t try to be brave in the future.

Mike drove through the gates and headed toward the clubhouse. It was unusual to see so few bikes outside. He exited the car and walked around to get me out. Holding me, Mike turned around to enter when the doors flew open.

Dynamo stormed out and stopped. She stared for a few moments as the doors opened again. Priest barrelled into her and nearly knocked Dynamo over.

Anger crossed Dynamo’s face, and she tore me from Mike’s arms. Oh no, Dynamo was mad!

Dynamo

“Get Maci inside and call Soul and Warden,” I ground out. What the fuck was going on? Priest disappeared, and I lunged at Mike and held a knife to his throat.

“How much did they pay you, Mike?”

“What?” Mike gasped, going still.

“Soul’s going to kill you. What happened? You realised that taking Soul’s kid was a mistake?” I snarled.

Confusion flitted across Mike’s face.

“Dynamo, I’ve no idea—”

“Lie!” I snapped and pressed the blade deeper. A thin line of blood appeared, and Mike swallowed.

“Dynamo, I found…!”

“Don’t hurt Daddy!”The scream came from behind, and I was so shocked that Mike was able to knock the knife away. Instantly, Mike plastered himself in front of the SUV.
