“True. But he’s nothing like the guys I’ve grown up around in my life, and that's what matters to me.”
“So, what about him do you like? Other than his looks.”
“He’s funny. And sweet. He held the door open for me once. And when I spilled my drink, he gave me a napkin.”
I blink at her, not sure what to say. “You’re joking, right?”
“Fine,” she sighs. “It’s mostly because he’s insanely gorgeous, but isn’t the whole point of dating? To get to know the other person?”
“Don’t ask me.” I shrug. “I’ve never dated anyone. And don’t plan on it.”
“Really?” She cocks her head to the side. “So, you don’t want to be in a relationship?”
“Never said that.” I don’t plan on dating Jasper, Wesley, or Sylas. That's something you do to see if you're compatible. There’s no point. I’m perfect for them.
Yes, yes, I know I told Callie no one is perfect. And I myself am not perfect, but in this situation, I am.
“I just don’t see the need to waste time when you know you’re going to be with that person.”
“I’m not following.”
“Never mind.” I wave her off. “I’m glad your night is going well.”
“Are you having fun?” she asks. “I realized I’ve kind of just been ignoring you for a while. I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. Honestly, I’m okay with you going off and doing your own thing. I don’t want to hold you back. Parties aren't my thing. I’m more of an introvert.”
“Well, shit. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have bugged you about coming then.”
“Stop apologizing,” I laugh. “It’s fine, really.”
“Do you want to go home?” she asks. “I can get one of the guys to drive you back?”
“Nah. I got my car, remember? I haven’t been drinking, so I’m good on that front, but I’m not leaving just yet.”
“Let’s go dance again,” she suggests.
Something out of the corner of my eye catches my attention. It’s the girl Wesley was with. She’s alone, but the look on her face says she’s very satisfied with whatever just went down. I hope it was worth it, that it was the best sex of her life, because it’s going to cost her exactly that. Her life.
I get a good look at her face, remembering it so I know just who to grab when the time is right.
“No. Really. It’s okay. Go hang out with James.”
“It’s Jonah,” she corrects, raising a brow.
“Yeah, Jimmy, that’s what I said. Go, have fun.” I wave her off.
She laughs, shaking her head. “You’re the best.”
“I know,” I call after her as she leaves.
Turning my attention back towards the stairs, I curse. She’s gone.
Oh well, I can’t really do anything right now anyway because I still have to change.
I head back upstairs to grab my bag. As I’m leaving Callie’s room, a door down the hallway opens.
“Nola?” Wesley’s voice has me pausing.
