Garrett chuckles. “I think Poppy here had too much to drink.”
“Fuck you,” Callie slurs.
“In this state? No way. Sorry, babe, but I don’t take advantage of girls under the influence. Ask me again when you’re sober, and I’ll say yes in a heartbeat.” He grins down at her.
“You wish,” she mutters.
“That I do, my little Poppy seed. That I do.”
“I wanna go home,” she moans.
“Then let's go home,” I tell her.
“I can take her home,”Garrett offers.
“No. It’s okay,” I tell him. “She came with me. I can take her home.”
“But what about Rebecca? You can’t leave Rebecca.” Callie stands up, swaying a little bit.
“Rebecca?” Garrett asks, looking between the two of us. “Is she a friend of yours?”
Friend? Fuck no. That's one of the bitches who made my life miserable in high school. Remember the girl I wanted to stab in the throat with a pencil? Yeah, that girl.
While Callie and I were dancing, we accidentally bumped into her. The glare of pure hatred I got in return when she realized who I was had me wanting to do what I was too scared to do back then.
“Uh, yeah. Sure,” I say.
“This is your opportunity,” Callie pleads with me. “Don’t miss it!”
She's not wrong. I was just talking about wanting to take out a few of my past bullies to turn the attention of my kills away from the guys.
“You sure?” I don’t want to leave her. What kind of friend would I be?
“Batman, take me to your Batmobile.” Callie looks up at Garrett.
“She’s safe with me,” Garrett promises me.
I don’t trust people easily. I can count on one hand the people that I do.
But I believe him. He’s also good friends with Sylas and the guys. I don’t think he’d risk his own life by hurting Callie.
“Okay.” I nod. “Callie, text me when you’re home, okay?”
Garrett bends down and picks Callie up, making her groan. Her head falls onto his shoulder, eyes closing. “Make the world stop spinning,” she begs.
“I’ll try,” he chuckles, then looks at me. “I’ll make sure she texts you.”
“Thanks. Bye, Callie. Feel better soon.”
“I’m never drinking again,” she whines as Garrett carries her away.
I head back into the house, searching for Rebecca. But after halfan hour, I give up. I know where she lives. I’ll just stalk her for a bit and find the right moment.
I’m about to leave when a hand grabs my shoulder. “Where are you going?” Jasper spins me around.
“Home,” I tell him.
His eyes flick between mine. “Why didn’t you leave with Callie and Garrett?”
