It’s not like I’m some blushing virgin. Far from it. But it’s been… a while.

I head out of the bathrooms and out the back door, standing in the alley for a moment and enjoying the cool air on my flushed skin. Finally, I take my phone out of my bag and call Papa.

“Sam?”

“Hi Papa. I need a ride.”

He frowned. “Sofia ditched you again?’

“Yeah. You know how it goes.”

I don’t mention that it’s Dmitri Oslov that she ditched me for. Sofia’s dad and my dad weren’t exactly friends, but they knew each other. And Sofia’s father wouldnotbe happy about her seeing Dmitri or any other member of the Bratva.

“Alright. Send your location and wait outside. I’ll send you a driver.”

I lean against the brick of the building and idly play with my phone, figuring that Armando will show up in his white sportscar soon. He’s my father’s usual driver. Instead, it’s a luxury SUV that pulls up, idling at the corner. It’s sleek black with black rims.

I walk up to it slowly, not sure if it’s my ride. The passenger side window slowly powers down, and Dante Bianchi’s blue eyes meet mine.

I stumble and have to hold onto the car door not to fall. He frowns. “Be careful. Do you need me to get out and help you?”

Yes. “No, I’m fine.”

I slowly open the car door and he puts one big hand on the gearshift. My breath catches, thinking about how his hand had spanned over half my hip. And I have generous hips.

I put on my seatbelt and shut the door, and he takes off, driving fast but not recklessly. He stares straight at the road, shifting gears now and again. “A manual,” I say out loud.

“Hm? Oh, yeah.” His voice is clipped, like he couldn’t care one way or the other.

Mr. Control. I wonder what he looks like when he loses it.

Am I in heat? Why is this man’s proximity making me feel like this? It’s been too long since I’ve been properly fucked. That’s all it is.

“Sexy,” I mutter, and he doesn’t react. “Where have you been all this time, Dante? Seems weird I haven’t met my father’s best friend until now.”

“Overseas.”

He doesn’t give me much more information and I frown. “Sicily?” He nods briskly.

“Can I ask you something?”

He sighs. “Something tells me you’re going to ask me no matter what I say.”

I grin. “You’re right. Do you work for my father?”

“Sometimes.”

“What do you do for him?”

He glances at me as we stop at a red light, and then right back to the road. “You wouldn’t want to know.”

My breath catches in my throat. He’s probably an enforcer, with how big he is. Papa might even make himcaputo, let him take care of things in this area. He takes on too much himself.

The fact that Dante likely has blood on his hands doesn’t sway me. In fact, it’s kind of hot. What can I say? I grew up in the life. Violence is a part of it. And a man who can handle himself…

Well. It’s attractive.

“You’re very handsome, Mr. Bianchi.” The alcohol makes me bold as we approach the gate of my father’s mansion. Dante stiffens.
