“What’s going on?” I ask as Memphis hovers nearby.
“It looks like Harper is somehow connected to your stalker.”
I gasp. “What? Why?”
Victor shakes his head. “We don’t have answers yet, butterfly. And she isn’t talking. You’re here to tell me what you want to see happen next. I can’t promise we’ll be able to do things exactly your way, but I want to consider your opinions, since she harmed you directly.”
“I don’t even know where to begin. How do you find out if she’s the stalker or just working with them?”
Victor looks at her and back at me. “I have ways.”
“Ways I probably don’t approve of. You can’t torture a woman, Victor.”
He laughs. “I can if it’s called for. But you’re right. I don’t plan on torturing her. We can also just turn her over to the police with the evidence Owen has.”
I frown. “I don’t know what to say, Master. It’s important to know what we’re dealing with. Perhaps you could try and get answers, and if your way doesn’t work, then we go to the police.”
Victor kisses my forehead. “So practical.”
He kicks Harper’s chair and points at me. “Say thank you to Grace. She’s the only reason you’ll find any mercy here.”
Harper sniffs and stares at me. “Thank you, Grace. I’m sorry things got out of hand.”
“Will you tell us who you’re working with?”
Harper’s eyes grow wide, and she shakes her head. “I can’t.”
“Will you answer our questions without revealing names? Just to give us an idea of what you were asked to do?”
Her face is white, but she nods slowly. “Just please don’t make me give you any names. I can’t. I’ll die.”
My stomach twists, and I wonder who the hell could put that much fear in Harper’s eyes.
Chapter 10
Victor
“GoaskBellamyifany of the suites are available. We’re going to stay in town tonight, and I would prefer to stay here.”
Grace looks at Harper and back at me, and I can tell she’s worried I’ll torture her.
“No harm will come to Harper at my hand, Grace. You have my word.”
She nods and puts a hand on my chest. “Thank you, Sir.”
I hold her hand flat against my shirt for a moment before letting her free, then I kiss her cheek and let her go.
When I’m alone with Harper again, I turn to face her and strip my suit jacket off.
“You’re lucky I value Grace’s opinion so much. Now, tell me everything.”
Harper’s lip trembles as she shifts to find a more comfortable position. Not a simple thing with the way she’s cuffed to the chair. “It was never supposed to get this far, but things weren’t going… h… their way.”
She started to say his or her, but I’m not sure which, but my money is on her, given what we’ve learned about Kara’s involvement.
“What was your role?”
“I was befriended by someone who came into the sandwich shop during one of my shifts. We hit it off and went on a date of sorts. After that, things got… complicated, and they started asking a lot of questions about Gracie.”
