“All I’m saying is that you don’t hate me as much as you say you do.”
My eyes narrow as Beau stands from his seat. Is he reallygoing to try to slyly allude to what happened between us in Vegas? Not the time, Beau…not the time…
“Vegas needs to stay in Vegas,” I contend. “That’s in the past. We need to focus on the now. And that we’re married and everyone here except the two of us wants us to stay married! Which is fucking batshit!”
“You’re wrong.”
“How am I wrong, Beau? Because this isn’t the time for us to get into a who was right pissing match.”
“It’s not that.” Beau takes a step closer to me, taking each of my wrists in his hands in what I think is an attempt to calm me down. It’s not working. “You said everyone except the two of us wants us to stay married. And you’re wrong.”
I think about his words for a second. “Are you saying…”
He nods, and I realize he’s holding my wrists so I don’t punch him.
“I think we should stay married…wife.”
CHAPTER 23
BEAU
Gabi
Did y’all seriously get married? Please tell me this is a joke.
Me
What do you want me to say? The truth? Or what you want to hear?
Beaumont Frederick Devereaux! Did you marry my best friend?
Yes.
Without me?
Yes. Which obviously is the biggest thing wrong with this situation.
Not the time for sarcasm big brother. I can’t believe y’all got married. Without me!
If it makes you feel better, in our hazy memory of the night, we said you’d freak out if we did it. So we were thinking of you.
Gee…I’m honored.
Are you just messaging to yell at me?
No. I wanted confirmation that you were in fact married because I nearly dropped my child when I saw the news. There I was, standing on the golf course, trying to watch my brother and my best friend win a tournament together, and that’s what I see on my phone.
I wanted to find y’all, but I was pushed into the media room so fast, I didn’t have a second to get my bearings.
We know. We saw. We thought it would be best if we took off. You’d reach out to us when you could.
In all seriousness, I am sorry. I know Shelby is too. We truly don’t remember doing it. We didn’t keep this from you on purpose.
I know. But I’m still mad at both of you.
That’s fair.
So…are you two like, married married? Which means you have to get a divorce, right? Annulment? How do you end what I’m assuming is a drunk Vegas marriage?
