“Oh, Molly, sweetheart, Alfie didn’t tell me you were here.” Mom walks into the kitchen, opening a cupboard and taking out a pot. “I’m making you hot chocolate,” she says. “Both of you.”

“And me?” Hudson sits next to Molly at the counter.

“Sure.” Mom busies herself with the hot chocolate while Molly looks like she wants the world to swallow her whole.

Her wide eyes meet mine with awhat the fucklook in them, and her hands pull at the fabric of the hoodie.

“Sorry,” I mouth.

“Mrs. Giuliani, you really don’t need to make me hot chocolate,” Molly says.

“It’s no trouble, and Alfie likes hot chocolate at night—well, anything sweet really. He’s got a real sweet tooth this one,” Mom says, and now I want the world to swallowmewhole.

“Oh, I saw the stash.” Molly laughs.

“What stash?” I ask her.

“The one you’re hiding behind that wall. Hudson showed me.” Molly points to the blank wall concealing the pantry no one is supposed to know about.

I turn my glare on my brother. “How the fuck do you know that’s there?”

“You’re shit at hiding things.” Hudson laughs.

“What else have you found in my house?”

“Your armory.” Hudson shrugs.

“No, you haven’t.” Molly snickers. “That’s the room he’s still looking for. But I know where it is.” She smiles at Hudson as she says this.

“I’ll pay you a million dollars to tell me where it is,” my brother urges her.

“A million dollars is pocket change to me, Hudson. You’re going to have to go a lot higher than that.” Molly continues to smile at him.

I place the plate down in front of her and hand her a knife and fork. Then I lean in and press my mouth against her ear. “I will give you unlimited orgasms for the rest of your life if you don’t ever give him that information,” I whisper.

“I have a counter offer,” she whispers back. “I will let you give me a lifetime of orgasms if you warn me next time your mother is in your house. I’m not even dressed, Alfie.” She sits straight in her seat before adding, “I would never have told him anyway, but I like your offer.”

Chapter Twenty-Nine

One down, two to go. I’m sitting at the head of the long oval table in the rented office space, looking at the team I pay damn good money and who couldn’t do a task as simple as acquiring a few buildings.

“We need a plan to get the remaining two buildings signed off before the end of next week,” I tell them.

I have a meeting with my board and investors the week after next. If I don’t have good news for them, that’s not going to go well for me.

“I’m assigning Mark, Greg, and Tom to the Davids’ building. And Luke, Frank, and Colin to the Smith building. Dig deep. I want any and all information you can find. Reach out and try to get in front of these assholes. Now that Brown has signed off on the sale, they might be more receptive to hearing our offer.” I stand, closing my notebook. “Do not fuck this up.”

I walk out of the meeting with Angus hot on my heels. “You know, I really think you could have a new career in ball busting, Mols,” he says.

I side-eye him. “If I wasn’t surrounded by useless assholes, I wouldn’t need to be busting their balls.”

“First, those men in there are the best in the industry. You hand-selected each and every one of them. Second, I’m starving and I’ve booked us a table at a Japanese place.”

It’s then that my stomach decides to grumble. “I’m also starving. I don’t know what I’d do without you,” I tell him, because I honestly would be lost—and hungry.

“You wouldn’t have to suffer long without me, because we both know you’d starve to death.” Angus laughs.

“Facts.”
