“Probably. Doc will be here any minute now to stitch him up. CJ is just a dramatic bastard. He got shot once and you’d think he got filled with lead.”
“Does this kind of thing happen often?”
“No,” Hudson says.
“But you’re so calm about it?”
“Okay, it happens. But I wouldn’t say often. Honestly, for the most part, our lives are very boring. The most exciting thing to happen to Alfie lately has been you.”
I want to say:Ditto, the most exciting thing to happen to me is meeting Alfie too.I’m also conscious of the fact it’s only been a couple of days. And yet, I feel as if I’ve already known him a lifetime.
Chapter Twenty-Eight
When CJ wakes up, I’m going to fucking kill him for bringing his shot ass into my home. I was seconds away from having Molly’s mouth wrapped around my cock.
Molly. Fuck.
I didn’t want her to see any of this. When I heard Daniella screaming out for me, I knew shit had went south. She doesn’thave access to my house. All of my cousins do, however. Something I should really change if I’m going to be keeping Molly here.
That’s if she hasn’t already left. My house is swarming with people: my parents, my aunts and uncles. They’re all fucking here. Hudson took Molly out of the room. That was an hour ago. I haven’t seen him or her since. I was busy trying to keep everyone else calm and stop all these fucking idiots from going out onto the streets and causing mayhem.
CJ jumped in front of Daniella when he saw a car come to a stop beside them. The window rolled down and then the barrel of a gun was pointed at her. Who the fuck is after a De Bellis in this country? She’s from Australia. I’ve never heard of her family having any beef in the States. Unless they were targeting CJ… or someone they thought he cared about.
Molly. Double fuck!
If the assholes trying to gain traction on the Strip are going after those we care about, Molly is going to have a target on her back. Because of me. We were photographed together tonight, and if they’re not already out there, those pictures are going to be spread all over the news sites and gossip rags real soon.
“Alfie, you should go have a shower. I’ll bring you up some hot chocolate.” Mom stops in front of me as I’m on my way out of the living room.
That’s when Hudson decides to reappear. Alone. “Where is she?” I ask him, ignoring my mother.
“She went upstairs. Said she wanted a shower,” Hudson explains.
“Huh, a shower’s a great idea, Mom. Don’t bring up hot chocolate, though.” I smirk at my mother before walking out of the room. I hear her ask Hudson to clarifywhowas in the shower.
I take the stairs two at a time and start stripping my shirt off along the way. And when I reach the bathroom attached to my bedroom, the only thing I have left on are my briefs, which I make quick work of getting out of. Molly watches me through the glass.
She’s still here.
The unease I was feeling moments ago diminishes as I step into the shower. I’m trying to find the right words. How the fuck do I explain that sometimes people get shot in my world without scaring her away?
Molly reaches up, her fingers lock around my neck, and she pulls me closer to her. My arms loop around her back and I bury my face in the crook of her neck, breathing her in.
“I’m sorry,” she says, her voice soft.
“I’m pretty sure I’m supposed to be saying that to you.”
“Why?”
“Molly, you just saw my cousin bleeding out on the living room floor. That’s not normal for you. I really didn’t want you to have to see anything like that.”
“Well, it’s not normal for a majority of the world, Alfie. But you didn’t shoot him. I’m confused as to why he came here instead of a hospital, though?”
“Some things are better left undocumented,” I admit. “Also, Daniella drove him here thinking I was his best bet at survival. The rest of them followed after she called them in a panic.”
“Daniella, that’s the woman from Australia, the one CJ has a crush on?”
“Yeah, he jumped in front of her when he saw a gun pointed at her.”
