And anyone else who dares to even think about her. Dream is mine, and I’ll do whatever the fuck I have to, to protect her.
Haze smiled. “There’s the green-eyed devil.” He brushed his black hair back, lost in thought for a moment. I could tell something was disrupting his focus, and the longer he sat here, the longer it was taking me to work, which meant the longer it would be until I could finally go back to Dream.
Fuck it.
I leaned back in my chair with a heavy sigh. “What is it?”
Haze turned to look at me with a serious expression. “Why does Kief hate us so much?” His green eyes met mine. “What did our father do to him?”
A coldness ran through my blood. I never expected for him to care about the past, but I guess with the way things were heading, it was only a matter of time before he asked. But still, I knew in my gut the timing wasn’t right. He wasn’t ready to hear the truth. Not yet.
“Kief’s hatred has nothing to do with us. And for now, that’s all you need to know.”
“Felix…you got to give me more than that. I?—”
I turned away and returned to my coding. “Go home, Haze.” He didn’t move. “Trust me…you don’t want to know.” He went to leave when I spoke again. “Oh, and don’t forget you still owe me a new car, baby brother.”
“Fuck you, Felix.”
CHAPTER TWELVE
KIEF
The private physicianfinished wrapping my hand with a fresh set of bandages, then reminded me which medication to take for pain. I still couldn’t believe Felix’s little slut had the balls to shoot me, leaving my hand disfigured.
Crazy fucking cunt.
The physician tried to talk to me about the aftercare of my injury, but I was in no mood to deal with them. “Get the fuck out,” I snapped, ripping my arm away. She seemed to pass my aggression off with a smile, as if she presumably cared about my health. “I said get the fuck out!” The physician scuttled from the room.
Pathetic.
One of my men entered as she left.
“What?” I snapped, storming to the liquor cabinet. I snatched a bottle of bourbon, drinking straight from it.
The man cleared his throat. “Sources tell us Felix was detained at the scene of the crash. Detectives tried to interview him, but someone got to the police chief before we could.”
I wiped my mouth. “Did he walk?”
He nodded. “His lawyer, a man by the name of Hui, escorted him out himself. Him and the woman.”
I rolled my eyes, fighting back a headache. “Fucking Hui, always sticking his nose in everyone’s business.” I took another swig of bourbon. “Put more pressure on the police. Squeeze them until they have no choice but to go after those fucking Osvaldo siblings.” I looked down at the gold signet ring. “Where’s Felix now?” The man pulled his phone from his jacket as it buzzed. “Well?”
He looked up at me with an odd expression. “It seems Ray has returned.”
I smiled instantly. “Oh, has he now? I’m curious to know how things went with him and our little white-haired friend. Send him in.” He nodded and left. I plopped down on the nearby lounge chair, groaning at how excruciatingly painful it was to even set my hand down.
Fucking Felix…just had to wreck everything, didn’t you?
My man returned with Ray.
“Fuck me…what the hell happened to you?” I asked, pointing to him. His cheeks were clawed up, his face was bruised, and he had a bandage along his collarbone, while walking with a slight limp. Ray bit his tongue. I stood from my chair and strolled over to him, holding the bottle of bourbon. “I said…what the hell happened to you?”
He clenched his jaw, finally opening his mouth to speak. “I did what you asked. I followed Danika, and?—”
“And, what?” I scoffed. “Did that harmless woman beat you up?” He didn’t answer. “Ha!” I slapped his face playfully, taking another drink as I paced the room. “My oh my, that woman really is something, isn’t she?” I stopped, dropping my smile. “She’s just like her counterpart, Felix…a real pain in my ass.”
Ray tsked. “That little slut is nothing. I’m not sure why you’re wasting your time on her.”
