Fuck me.

She looked away, adding another track as I continued to watch her perform, completely enamored. My torso tightened, my heart pounding as I became a bit lightheaded. I leaned back on the couch and clutched my chest, struggling to pretend I was okay when I was anything but.

What is happening to me?

I sat there, trying to figure out what was happening.

Is this…Is this how Haze feels? It can’t be…can it?

Dream’s lips curled into a seductive smile and I felt my body react in a way it hadn’t in such a long time. Or ever. And I knew then, that no matter what, I needed to knoweverythingabout her.

I’m so fucked.

CHAPTER ONE

FELIX

Where are you,cottontail?

I leaned against the old building wall, using the shadows to my advantage as I stared straight ahead at the apartment building, hiding in the darkness. My balaclava was raised just above my mouth, making things a bit easier as I smoked a cigarette, focused on nothing but the simple idea ofher.

Any minute now.

The warm summer breeze picked up, blowing the cigarette smoke back into my eyes, and faintly stinging my corneas. “Ahh,” I groaned while rubbing them. “Fuck this.” I threw the cigarette down, putting it out with the toe of my boot before shoving it in my pocket, erasing any trace of me being there. I anxiously checked the clock on my phone, seeing the time. “Where are you?” I whispered to myself before panning back across the street to her apartment. An uncomfortable and unsettling anxiety grew within the pit of my stomach.

I wonder what could be keeping her…she’s usually back here by now. Fuck, I’ve never even spoken to this woman and she’s got me worrying about her day and night.

I adjusted my mask, lowering it back to its place and hiding my face. Much like my younger brother, the concept of wearinga mask had become comforting, but also my own unique form of protection. Aside from my eyes, every inch of my face was hidden away, keeping my identity a secret, just as I preferred.

Buzz.

Buzz.

Buzz.

I glanced at my phone, still in hand, to see my brother’s name pop up. “Not now,” I growled, declining the call. “I’m busy.” My focus returned to the woman’s apartment, but was quickly interrupted as my phone buzzed a second time. “Ugh,” I groaned, knowing damn well he would keep calling until I answered his call. “What?” I snapped, finally answering the phone.

“Well, hello to you, too.” I rolled my eyes at Haze’s tone. “Just thought you should know, I met with your contact, Hui. But I’ve got to say, that guy is fucking weird, Felix.”

My brow raised. “Oh, yeah? How so?” I half listened as I watched a few passersby come and go outside Dream’s apartment, recognizing them as her neighbors.

Haze kept talking. “The guy acted like he was too unbothered to even acknowledge me, rolling his eyes and acting like I was some kind of a fucking idiot.” Haze scoffed. “Hell, just trying to set the fucking meeting up was a pain. The man refused to step foot anywhere outside the club, and just sat there, sprawled out in his oversized chair, staring up at the ceiling. Took everything in my power not to just beat the information out of him.” Haze paused, but I could hear his temper peeking through. “Dude’s one lazy motherfucker.”

I tried not to smile at the perfect visual he’d painted. “That’s Hui for you. He may be lazy, but he’s a valuable friend to have. Try not to take his attitude personally, baby brother.”

Haze snarled faintly through the phone. “I told you to stop calling me that.” I smiled at his annoyance.

“I’ll stop…the day you learn to throw me on my ass.” Haze fell silent and I tried not to gloat at hismanyfailed attempts to beat me in a simple fight. Sure, he was strong and fit, but I had at least ten years’ worth of training that ensured he’d never beat me.

My brother grumbled a few curse words to himself before switching back to the topic at hand. “Whatever. I did what you asked and met with that damn sloth.”

“And?”

He groaned. “And he didn’t give me shit, Felix. All I could get out of him was that Kief’s men were sniffing around asking questions, but no one in his network has talked. So I got nothing.”

“I wouldn’t say nothing.”

No news is good news.
