Indigo chuckled. “Good eye. Not many people think we look alike.” She gripped Haze’s thigh, then took the blunt from him, drawing out a long hit. She exhaled, the overwhelming smell of weed filling the car.
I groaned and kicked the back of Haze’s seat. “You better get this thing detailed whenever you decide to finally give it back to me.”
My brother scoffed, wearing that damn grin he loved so much. “Sure thing, hermano.” Indi smiled at her twin while rubbing his thigh.
Dream leaned in close and whispered into my ear, “Am I crazy…or are they—” I stopped her and inclined my head. She blinked and nodded, accepting their relationship without any judgement or care. “Gotcha.”
“So, what’s the pla—” Shots sprayed through the car from behind, shattering the rear window. “Fuck!” Haze hit the gas and sped off, trying to outrun the car.
I checked on Dream, making sure she was okay. Headlights flashed and we both turned around, noticing a blacked-out SUV with Kief and his men inside. A second, then third vehicle appeared, surrounding the car. We all looked at one another, realizing the situation we were in.
“Haze.” My brother eyed me from the rearview mirror. “I got this.” He switched gears, speeding the car down the highway to give us some distance.
Indigo threw the blunt out her window and popped the glove box open, piecing together a Smith & Wesson M&P M2.0, complete with a silencer to keep from drawing any unwanted attention. She loaded the magazine and handed it to Haze.
I pulled a second magazine from my backpack, reloading my handgun as another round of bullets sprayed the car. Haze turned off and exited the highway, speeding through the streets as the other cars followed.
I held my ears and tried to ignore the loud ringing.
Dream tapped my shoulder and held her hand out to me. “Here.” I looked down at her opened palm, noticing a pair of earplugs. She smiled, offering them to me. “I’ve kept a pair on me ever since the gun range…just in case.”
I took the earplugs and shoved them into my ears, kissing her in the process. She looked past me as one of the SUVs sped up parallel to us. “Watch out!” Dream tackled me as the passenger shot through the back window. She raised her arm, aiming her brightly-colored gun as she shot back, burying her bullet into the center of his forehead.
“Great shot!” Indigo squealed. Dream reached across and high-fived my little sister.
“Not the time!” I shouted, sitting up as I spun Dream around and shot the driver. The SUV immediately swerved and wrecked into oncoming traffic. Headlights sped toward us from behind as Kief and his driver rammed into us, knocking Dream and I forward. “Stop fucking up my car!” I bellowed, shooting at them. My bullets shattered the windshield as they hit their brakes, allowing the third SUV to take the lead.
Youwouldrun from a fight, cousin.
“Baby sis.” Indigo turned to look at me. “Switch with me.” She didn’t argue, crawling over into the backseat as I took the passenger one. “Bag.” She tossed me my backpack and I pulled out some more ammunition. I then rustled with a bag ofhard candies, immediately popping one into my mouth. “Here.” I handed one back to Dream, who opened her mouth and extended her tongue for me as I placed it in her mouth.
“You guys are crazy,” Haze playfully scoffed.
I shot him a look. “As crazy as fucking your own twin?” He shot me a look which only made me smile. “Yeah, that’s what I thought.” I looked at the way ahead and then to the car tailing us. “When we pass that building, I’m going to need you to take a sharp right and drift the car enough to give me a clear shot.”
My brother side-eyed me. “You sure that’s a good idea?” I nodded, sucking on the sweet candy. He groaned again. “You're the boss.”
And just as I’d instructed him, he passed the building and whipped the car in a sharp right turn, then drifted. “Get down!” Indigo pulled Dream, and they ducked. I leaned out the passenger window and shot up the SUV that sped toward us. The passenger and driver of the vehicle both shot back, shattering the remaining windows in my car.
Motherfuckers!
My arm swung and I shot their front tire. It popped as the SUV swerved hard, the momentum of speed making the other vehicle roll in our direction. “Go! Go! Go!” I slapped the car as Haze put it into drive and sped off before it could crash into us.
“Where’s Kief?” he asked. I shot him a look as the third SUV reappeared, driving after us.
The two women in the back slowly raised, brushing shards of broken glass from their hair and bodies. I turned to look at them, making sure they were okay.
Indigo brushed the glass from her lap, leaning forward to check on Haze as we switched seats again. “Are you okay?” I checked Dream closer. She nodded.
My brother shot a glare through the rearview mirror that was now barely hanging on. “I hate to break up your little moment, but we got a problem.” We all looked forward to see blue and red lights, followed by sirens.
Dream tapped my shoulder. “I think we have a bigger problem.” She pointed to the SUV that was heading straight for us. Kief grinned, raising a gun.
“Watch out!” Gunshots hit the car, barely missing Indigo.
Haze saw that and turned to look at Kief, his eyes burning. “Fuck this—” He whipped the car around to face the SUV, then hung out the driver’s side window and peppered the windshield with bullets until he fully emptied his clip. Indigo controlled the steering wheel and spun the car back around as we then headed away from the police, Kief still tailing us. Haze tossed his weapon and grabbed the steering wheel again, glancing between the road and his twin. “Are you okay?” She nodded. “Let me see!” He checked her closely, raging with anger.
Oh, you got fucking lucky, Kief.
