Not even fifteen minutes later, the front door of Dream’s apartment opened as the mysterious man stepped outside and waved goodbye.

I kept a close eye on the man as he approached his car, unlocking it with his key fob. The guy rubbed me the wrong way, his cocky little smile making him look like a smug motherfucker. And he seemed way too happy about spending time withmygirl.

Yeah, not on my fucking watch.

My body pushed off the brick wall and I ambushed him, waiting until his back was to me as I threw my arm around his neck. “Hey! What the?—”

“Shhhhhh!” I dragged the man back into the dark alley as he kicked and thrashed around. “Not until you answer my questions.” I threw the man into the wall and watched as his head hit the brick with a loudcrack. “Where is she?” I shouted? Gripping him by the collar. “Tell me!”

Blood began to pool down from his temple. “Where is who, man?” He tried to wriggle free. “What the fuck did I do?”

My fist slammed into his gut and he keeled over, groaning in pain. “Shut up!”

“Ugh…but you asked me a question!” I punched the man again, knocking him down to the damp ground of the dark alley.

Stupid fuck.

The man rolled onto his stomach and tried to crawl away. His face was drained of color and his eyes were filled with terror. “And just where do you think you’re going?” A smile branched across my face as I popped a new hard candy and stalked toward him.

“Please,” he begged. “I didn’t do anything, man!” It was kind of amusing to watch him desperately try to escape me. As if the poor fucker had a chance.

My hands gripped the shredded hems of his fucking jeans and I dragged him further back into the alley. “Now.” My hands dropped his legs and he fell down onto his stomach. I stood over him, then crouched down before gripping a fistful of his dirty-blond hair. “Who the hell are you? And why were you inherapartment?”

The guy quivered as his eyes looked back at me with nothing but fear. “W-who? Danika?” I glared at him. “Nothing, man! I-I’m just one of the extra sound guys hired to help with the events. Honest! I swear!”

So he’s new…now, that’s interesting.

With a heavy sigh, I reached around to one of my pockets and whipped out a decent-sized pocketknife. “So…you're new to TheRed Eye. Didhesend you?” I lunged forward and the blade of my knife stopped just a few centimeters from the skin of his neck. “Tell me!”

“W-who, man?! Who?!”

I lost my temper. “You know who!” I slammed my forehead into his, pain ringing through my skull. “What does he want with her? Huh? What does he want with her?!”

The man cried hysterically. “I don’t know w-who you’re talking about! I swear! I fucking swear!”

Pathetic little fucker.

“Go ahead, play dumb…I’ll make you talk.” I leaned forward with my knife, moving it from his neck and repositioning it along the backside of his ear before tipping the sharp blade faintly into flesh, making him bleed down his face. The man shouted for help and begged me to stop, clawing at the ground. “Tell me what you did to her!”

“Nothing, man! I swear,” he cried. “I did nothing!”

I pressed the blade deeper, slowly slicing away at his flesh as he howled, listening to the squelching sounds his ear made as I sawed away at it. The man flopped like a fish, screaming in agony as I tossed his now-separated ear onto the damp and dirty ground. “You know…” I sighed. “Things would be a lot less painful if you were just honest with me.” I purposely patted the exposed wound on his face.

“Ahh! I am!” he shouted. His screams were nearly hoarse from how loud and dramatic he’d been. “I swear, I didn’t touch her! I just gave her a ride home!” He spit his words. “Fuck, man…she’s right inside! Hell, just call her if you don’t believe me!”

I pressed my thumb along the bleeding hole where his ear once stood, baring my canines. “Nice try, but her phone isn’t even on! Sheneverturns her phone off!” He groaned as I pressed harder. “And then what do I find when I pull up to herplace? You, coming out of her apartment with a smug look on your face!”

“Ahhhhh! Stop it! Please! Help! Someone help!!” The man cried like a baby. “Just stop! Please!”

“No one’s coming to save you, fuckboy.” I pulled my thumb from his ear hole and sat on his back, preventing him from running. “But to prove my point, I’ll try calling her again.” I pulled my phone out of my pocket and tapped her number, putting the phone on speaker.

God, I can’t wait to prove him wrong and kill this little prick.

But then we both froze as we heard a loud, familiar ringtone.

Wait a second…

My eyes rose as I looked back toward the end of the alley and noticed Dream, standing maybe ten feet away, her phone ringing in her hand. She raised the phone to her ear and answered the call. “Whoops. I guess I forgot to charge my phone last night.” I hung up and rushed to my feet, running toward her. I examined her closely, making sure she was okay before releasing the biggest sigh of relief.
