My fingers trace the line of his jaw.
“The fire made that seem stupid. I don’t want to keep waiting because someone else taught me I should be ashamed.”
His eyes close briefly.
“I want my first time to be with the man who makes me feel safe enough to ask.”
His forehead presses harder to mine.
When he speaks, his voice is quieter.
“You trust me that much?”
“Yes.”
His eyes open.
There is no uncertainty in them now.
Only hunger.
Protection.
And something that feels dangerously close to love.
“You’re sure?”
“I have never been more sure of anything.”
“Then I take care of you.”
The promise settles inside me.
I touch his face.
“I want all of you, Lance.”
His eyes burn into mine.
“You have me.”
Chapter 6
Lance
IhavedreamedaboutCora Larsen in my bed.
None of those dreams came close.
Her curls spread across my pillow in a wild golden tangle. Her skin is flushed from my mouth, and her body lies soft, bare, and open beneath me.
But it is the trust in her eyes that gets through every defense I have left.
It scares the hell out of me.
I kiss her once, forcing myself to keep it slow when every part of me wants to take.
“You control this,” I tell her. “You say stop, and I stop. You tell me something hurts, and I change what I’m doing.”
